As a society, we are beginning to recognize a widespread disconnection from our bodies and nervous systems. After a few episodes that largely revolved around understandings of the mind and consciousness, I was excited to sit down with Steven Jaggers to dive into the innate intelligence and 'hidden' mechanisms within the body. From anxiety medications and antidepressants, to things as simple as comfort foods, we often tend to reach for external ways to regulate our nervous systems....forgetting that we always possess what is potentially the most potent regulation tool for the job: the breath.
On this episode, we discuss the science of breathwork, how and why to activate the parasympathetic versus sympathetic nervous systems, the similarities between breathwork and psychedelic experiences, and more. While awareness of this field is rapidly growing, I'd say it's still far from common knowledge. When they become common knowledge, these modalities just might revolutionize many aspects of health.
