The Mother Wit Podcast is a show about the issues health care consumers and providers face every day as we interact with the medical system. We’ll talk about its blindspots and shortcomings, and share strategies that we can use to feel seen and heard, no matter which side of the table we sit on.Featuring intimate stories of people navigating the healthcare system throughout the perinatal period (preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood) and the most thoughtful and innovative leaders in perinatal healthcare including midwives, nurse practitioners, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, physical therapists, mental health specialists, fitness professionals, and birth workers of all stripes. My sincere hope is to build a strong and resilient community of consumers and healthcare providers, a place where we can come together to listen and learn from each other, to share our struggles and successes, and empower each other to envision and develop the kind of care we all deserve. My guest today is Laura Williams is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Board-Certified Women’s Health Clinical Specialist. She lives in Salida, CO with her husband, 2 daughters and 2 dogs. Laura founded a practice called Hearth Healing, a pre and postnatal pelvic health consultation service that offers accessible information in a 100% virtual space. Ep. 52: Reflecting on two very different birth experiences with Mother Wit Mama, Sarah Holiday
My guest today is Sarah Holiday, a long time Mother Wit mama. Sarah (and her husband!) did a lot of hard work in our time together as they worked through mental health challenges, some of which stemmed from childhood experiences, others were related to more current circumstances related to a stressful move, the pandemic and pregnancy itself. No matter what was going on for her, she always knew what she wanted and needed and was always ready and willing to do the hard and introspective work that one must do to overcome or find their way to the other side. She has always kept in touch and she reached out when she was pregnant with her second baby because she was determined to get the in person midwifery care that she deserved that first time around. She is here today to share her two experiences. I feel confident that consumers and providers alike will learn something from her story.

The first episode made me tear up and I cannot wait for more!
So excited this is finally here!
I've been waiting for Tanya to make a podcast for years and I'm so thrilled this is finally happening. Tanya is a model for what healthcare providers should be: expert in her craft, compassionate, non-judgemental, humble, and curious. Her forever quest for deeper levels of knowledge, and her fierce advocacy for her patients is why I hold her in the highest regards. I know she's just getting started, but this podcast is sure to evolve into a wealth of knowledge and a breath of fresh air in maternal care discourse. Can't wait!
