    35. The Power of Repeat Word Modifiers in Writing Personal Statements

    In this epsiode,
Dr. Myers Hurt shares a writing tip for using repeat word modifiers in sentence structures to make writing more impactful, using personal statements as examples. This technique involves repeating a key word in a sentence to emphasize its importance and create a sense of anticipation for the reader. The host attributes the concept to a book by Michael Deegan and offers two examples to illustrate the power of the repeat word modifier.

    34. Can Chat GPT or Other AI's write your personal statement for you?

    34. Can Chat GPT or Other AI's write your personal statement for you?

In this episode, I review my experience using Chat GPT to generate personal statements for radiology and neurosurgery. I share some of the generated content and my thoughts on it, as well as how I plan to use it to structure my own personal statements. While some of the generated content was a bit dry and repetitive, I found it helpful in identifying themes and ideas to include in my own writing. Overall, I think Chat GPT is a powerful tool that can be used to jumpstart the writing process, but it still requires some polishing and personalization.

OUTSTANDING

Absolutely great advice and content. Straight to the point. Really great help throughout. I have one question: I'm an IGM student. My school writes a very generic chairman letter, that's sent to students to uplad themselves to the ERAS website. the letter has no content at all. Cenrtain IM programs are requiring a chair letter. I have contacted all the ones I'm applying to. Some programs told me it's acceptable to substitute the chair letter with another letter written by someone whom I worked with and knows me well. Others have not responded to me- that's my problem.
Q: Do I send the chair letter anyway to prevent the risk of of the program not even considering my application (if it didn't meet all the requirements)? Or do I send a letter written by someone whom I worked with and who is a director of IM program at the hospital I rotated?

Thank you so much
Please keep the podcasts going it's an amazing resource. Thank you for your contribution!
