Calming Your Inner Storm- Cindy Shumaker

In this time of rapid change and transformation, at times, you might have felt awash in emotions, feelings, body, or other issues that threatened to hijack your ability to function normally.

Welcome to the club!  You are not alone!  Many of us are right there with you!

Fortunately, there is a way out!  My guest this week is Cindy Shumaker, also known as the "Calming Engineer".

Cindy Shumaker is a Certified eutaptics® Advanced Practitioner. Her expertise is in the field of neuroplasticity, particularly in navigating the complexities of grief and loss, which are often referred to as "life's unwanted changes."Cindy shares about her journey of introspection and deepening that began in her teens when she struggled with the debilitating effects of anxiety, low self-esteem, and health challenges brought on by worry and perfectionism, endemic to young teen girls.  Her issues created a health crisis that took her to the hospital.  She has had chronic stomach issues throughout her life as a result.

This experience set her out on a lifelong journey of self-discovery to end this cycle because she was convinced that the mind-body connection held the key to finding solutions.

After overcoming her own struggles, Cindy became passionate about empowering others to become their own superheroes.

She spent 3 years training to become a certified eutaptics® Advanced Practitioner.  You might be familiar with the modality of EFT (Emotional Freedom Tapping)  This is one of the 75 modalities Cindy uses in her work.

Her online platform, "Calming Your Inner Storm, One Thought at a Time," serves as a beacon of hope for those seeking comfort and guidance during life's storms.

Join us as Cindy coaches Judith on a physical issue she is currently experiencing and suggests a direction she might investigate in her own healing.

    Secrets of a Chilled-Out Extrovert

    Secrets of a Chilled-Out Extrovert

Any extroverts in the house?I'm guessing "yes", since chances are good, if you follow this podcast, you likely are an extrovert or at least have those tendencies.

I used to be one too, but today, I consider myself a "Chilled-Out Extrovert", a seeming contradiction, I know. Because my experience is that those old tendencies are still in me and every so often they burst forth in a frenzy of activity that takes my breath away. Literally!

Couple that with my Aries moon, having recently been eclipsed while in Mercury retrograde, and you get some mighty energy going on.

So this episode is for and about extroverts, those who love them, live with them, or otherwise have to deal with them ... (which is pretty much everyone!)

There are some things I've realized over the years about being extroverted and how to best manage all that need to be in charge

It's a funny thing about us extroverts: we give the impression that we love to be surrounded by people and activities all the time.

We're generally viewed as the "life of the party" people, the ones with our fingers always on the pulse of what's new, hip, happening and what's next.

But here's a little "secret" about us: it's not that we love to be surrounded at all times, it's that we need to be. And therein, lies the problem.

Join me as I unpack my own experience of dealing with the shreds and shards of extroversion that still cling to my personality, even at this “mature” age of 82!  And what it costs me!

What is it that REALLY drives extroverts to seek all that attention?  What has us REALLY need to be in charge, manage, lead and direct whatever parade we’re marching in?

You might take notes if you’re an extroverted type as we dive into the dynamics of what’s really going on inside all that activity and best of all….. what is the antidote!

And extroverts, what have you found to be effective ways to deal with your own extroverted, burned-out status when you’ve crossed the line?

Come join us in the Living in The New Beyond Facebook group and share your own “secrets to being a chilled-out extrovert”, if there is such a thing!  We are all ears!!

    Celebrating our 100th episode!!

    Celebrating our 100th episode!!

Welcome to the 100th episode of The New Beyond!

As many of you know, I began this podcast a little over 2 years ago as a kind of legacy project for my 80th birthday.

And we’re now 2 years and 100 episodes down the road and I’m still here!  And so are you!  And this community has grown and I’m celebrating that with all of you.

Recently, I surveyed the people who regularly listen to this podcast and among other things, I inquired : “what are the biggest challenges in your life right now”?

Over half of you indicated among your biggest challenge are issues around purpose, and direction. What is my purpose and where am I going? What's next in my life?

So, there's a lot of uncertainty about what your life is about.  And why wouldn’t that be the case?

For those of you who are looking to launch or relaunch your life, to invent or reinvent yourself, let’s not lose sight of the fact that you are doing this in an era of endless change and upheaval.

There is an interesting quote from Alan Watts that I posted on the LITNB FB page:

“There is a contradiction in wanting to be perfectly secure in a universe whose very nature is momentariness and fluidity.”

And I think we could also say:

"There is a contradiction in wanting to be certain in a universe whose very nature is that of uncertainty.”

The question that arises, what can I do? What am I supposed to do with my life when It's taking place inside such instability and change and upheaval?

Join me as I address the following:

How do we find purpose, meaning and direction in these times of upheaval and uncertainty?

How do we navigate this tremendous change?

What if I don’t trust or believe in myself to do the work?

What can you bring to this moment to ground yourself and come to center?

What are the gifts of this time?

Together we have work to do.  And I am here to support you.

For those who indicated in your survey response that you’re interested in working with me either 1:1 in private coaching, or in a group, please contact me at:  judith@judithrich.com or message me on Facebook Messenger.

Tell me what you’re interested in and let’s put together a plan that meets your needs.

From Grief to Gratitude: Alicia Strunk

From Grief to Gratitude: Alicia Strunk

My guest this week is Alicia Strunk, a New Hampshire native, now residing in Ireland.

Full disclosure- Alicia is my assistant and has supported me in the production of this podcast for the better part of the past year.

During this past year, Alicia’s pregnancy was a common topic of our discussions.   We delighted in talking about the journey of pregnancy, motherhood, and all that it calls forth for a woman.   It was impossible not to share her excitement around the coming birth.

However, at 39 weeks into her pregnancy and expecting to give birth at any moment, Alicia she got the news that her first born was going to be a stillbirth.

To lose her baby at full term was not only an unexpected and shocking turn of events, it surfaced some very deep and existential questions that Alicia and her husband had to address.  What happened?  What went wrong?  Why did this happen?

In a shocking scenario from which it would seem impossible to find anything to be grateful for, Alicia dives deep to share the gifts came to light through this tragedy.

In her experience of processing this loss, Alicia found beauty in grieving and learned that pain does not have to lead to suffering.  She learned that her capacity to love was far deeper than she imagined.  She learned that it not only takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to mourn the loss of one, and that one can leave a legacy without even taking a breath.

While the subject is sensitive and involves grief and loss, I think you’ll be uplifted and inspired by the way Alicia, her husband Johnny, their families, and their community have been present to the fullness of this experience and how they’ve grown from it.

As we recorded this episode, it had only been a month, to the day, that Alicia and her husband lost their baby.  Yet she was clear and grounded as she talked.  Her heart has been opened by this experience and she has awakened at a whole new level.

While this journey is, on the surface, about the end of something, it is also about the promise of a new beginning.  Tune in and learn what that new beginning might be.

Why I'm Not A Fan of Positive Thinking

Why I'm Not A Fan of Positive Thinking

In this week’s episode, I tackle the subject of positive thinking and why I am not a fan.

My point of view is that there is no such thing as positive thinking. There is only thinking.  Thoughts are neither positive nor negative. They’re just thoughts.

I further suggest there are no positive or negative feelings. There are only feelings. Following this line of thought, I further suggest there are no positive choices or positive results. There are only choices and results.

I’m also not anti-positive thinking.  I’m merely pointing out that I think we’re not looking at the whole picture when we talk about positive/negative thinking.

Remember, in The New Beyond, we are in a context that is outside the norm, or Beyond the Box, so to speak.  Positive thinking lies inside the box of conventional approaches to dealing with difficult and challenging experiences and emotions.

     So what’s the point?

I contend that positive thinking is a form of spiritual bypassing, which is an approach that uses spiritual explanations to dismiss or avoid dealing with complicated emotions or psychological issues.  It’s a form of “magical thinking” that placates the ego, but changes nothing.

Tune in as we unpack this subject and learn:

What is the alternative to positive thinking?

How do we navigate these challenging times of extreme social change and upheaval?

How do we stay grounded and centered and aligned with our highest values as we’re continuous pushed to the edge in this Pandemic of Change?

What is being required of us now, in this Age of Aquarius, as massive change is happening all at once?

I have been a professional coach and trainer through the past five decades.  What I do is support people through their personal and professional challenges, especially in times like now.

I offer 1:1 personal coaching, and VIP days to help you meet these challenges.  I am here to support you in your process of moving through difficulties and becoming aligned with what truly matters to your life.

What is a Bad Ass Woman? - Lisa Kalmin

What is a Bad Ass Woman? - Lisa Kalmin

My guest this week is Lisa Kalmin. We have been colleagues in the business of transformation and leadership development for many decades. She is also a mindset coach, speaker, corporate trainer and at the age of 51 became the mother of twin boys!

For the past 35 years, Lisa has coached and trained over 25,000 people in the principles and techniques to transform their lives.

In this week’s episode, Lisa and I take on the subject of the Bad Ass Woman (BAW).

What exactly is a BAW?  What are her challenges?

How did this term go from being one that referred to men who were considered “tough” and even “bullies” like Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris, to a feminist rallying cry for empowered women like Oprah Winfrey, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Taylor Swift, and even you and me.

We discuss the influence of Pluto being in the sign of Aquarius for the next 20 years and the implications of the kinds of shifts that will occur.  This is a collective event that affects all of us.  Not just women, but humanity.

What are the “ground rules” for being a badass?  (You really want to hear them!)

And how can a woman be grounded and centered in her Divine Feminine self, and also be a Badass?

How does she juggle the demands of today’s world, family and career responsibilities and still be true to herself?

And you really want to hear Lisa’s definition of a Badass Woman!  (Take notes!)

Are YOU a BAW?  If you think not, tune in.  You might just change your mind!

Lastly, one thing a BAW does is, she asks for what she wants and is willing to receive it.

On that note, this BAW would like nothing more than for you to share this episode with other BAW and even write a review or give us some stars (5 please!).  There!  I said it!  And thank you!
