Not Less Than Everything One Mans Search For Spiritual Enlightenment

Revealing his new book Not Less Than Everything: One Man’s Quest for Spiritual Enlightenment, published by Clovercroft Published September 26, 2023), August Turak reveals his stories as a member of the original team that launched MTV: Music Television and a successful hi-tech entrepreneur, Turak had what most people consider to be "the life." But he was not happy. This is the inspirational true story of how Turak overcame crippling depression and despair through a daring quest for life’s ultimate meaning and purpose -- a search for transcendence.   Although his stories are wildly entertaining and often comical, Turak wishes to address the individual and collective absence of higher meaning and purpose afflicting Western civilization. He hopes this book acts, in some small way, as an antidote to that. AUGUST TURAK is a successful corporate executive, entrepreneur, award-winning author, speaker, and consultant. He is the founder of the educational nonprofit the Self Knowledge Symposium Foundation. Turak has lived and worked alongside the Trappist monks of Mepkin Abbey as a frequent monastic guest since 1996. As a troubled young college student in 1971, Turak was seized by the idea that the mystical experience that various religious traditions call Enlightenment, Satori, Nirvana, Samadhi, the Unio Mystica, or Cosmic Consciousness not only exists but might be attainable by him.  This sparked a life-altering quest, as Turak became the first student of a rough-hewn, hillbilly Zen master; the protégé of the founder of the IBM Executive School; the client of a mystical psychologist doing government-funded research with LSD; a member of the original team that launched MTV: Music Television; a successful hi-tech entrepreneur and even a longtime, part-time Trappist monk. This same spiritual roller coaster dropped him off twenty-five years later in a tiny room of a rundown motel in Baltimore, Maryland, deeply depressed, fearing for his sanity, and with nowhere to turn. Or, so it seemed.  After a corporate career with companies like MTV, Turak founded two highly successful software businesses. He has published many popular leadership articles for Forbes and featured in the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Selling Magazine, the New York Times, and BusinessWeek. His book, Business Secrets of the Trappist Monks, uses 1000 years of Trappist business success and his own entrepreneurial experience to demonstrate that the monks are not successful businessmen despite adhering to only the highest ethical values, but because they do.  Turak's inspirational true story, Brother John: A Monk, a Pilgrim, and the Purpose of Life, combines his $100,000 Templeton Prize-winning story with original oil paintings from award-winning artist Glenn Harrington.  August Turak lives on a seventy-five-acre cattle farm outside Raleigh, NC. The Turning of the Circle Embracing Natures Wisdom for Purposeful Living REINO GEVERS

Reino Gevers is a seasoned pilgrim who has walked twelve different Camino pilgrimage routes in northwestern Spain. His journey began after hitting a wall in his over 20-year journalism career, prompting a complete reinvention of himself. His first book, "Walking on Edge," is a fictional narrative drawn from his personal experiences on the Camino. His latest non-fiction work, "Deep Walking – for Body, Mind, and Soul," captures crucial lessons from the Camino, distilled from interviews and conversations with hundreds of fellow pilgrims and he now reveals his new book The Turning of the Circle.  Reino now dedicates much of his time to workshops, speaking tours, corporate health counseling, and mentoring leaders and achievers. Residing on the island of Majorca, he enjoys hiking, practicing martial arts, writing, and blogging in his free time. Reino believes it is our destiny as human beings to grow and become who we are truly meant to be. Life is not meant to be an easy ride. Trigger points such as divorce, the loss of a loved one, or financial ruin can elevate you to higher consciousness or leave you stagnating in melancholy. Our true calling often lies in the wounds of the past, sculpting us into the human beings we are destined to become. Reflecting on the past, it's clear how overcoming pain and obstacles equips us to fulfill our divine purpose. As an author and mentor, Reino aims to provide the tools that have helped him navigate life's challenges. Many of his insights came from long, solitary walks on the Camino de Santiago. In retrospect, those moments were among the most precious. The role of a mentor, he believes, is to guide, hold to account, and listen. If you feel a deep desire to grow, learn, and achieve financial independence, health, and strength, Reino may be able to assist you. His mentoring program focuses on finding soul purpose, building resilience, and mind-setting. Reino holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of South Africa and has been a trainer for leaders and achievers for the past ten years. He is the author of several books, including "Deep Walking for Body, Mind, and Soul," "Walking on Edge: A Pilgrimage to Santiago," and "Yield and Overcome: How Change Can Positively Impact Our Lives." Having experienced hitting the wall and finding the reset button to change his life's trajectory, Reino left South Africa at 23 to start a new life in Europe. He did it again ten years ago, leaving a well-paid job to start his own business from scratch. The brink of job burnout led him to his first Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which changed his life. He has since walked the Camino twelve times and incorporates an annual pilgrimage into his life.

The 12 STEP Pathway: A Heroic Journey Michael Cowl Gordon MD, Author, Redeemer

Host Tom A. Dutta asked Michael Cowl Gordon to write why he should be on The Quiet Warrior Show.  Micha  poured onto his paper a page and a half of writing, and the latter was this:   "I believe that my story illustrates the heroic journey. Joseph Campbell wrote that the purpose of the heroic journey is to redeem the world. While that would be overstating my accomplishments, I believe it is true that I have helped thousands of patients through my direct involvement in their care. I have helped hundreds of people through mutual involvement in twelve-step recovery. And with this book, I can help thousands more. I believe my story will interest your listeners. I hope many will be encouraged to see how their lives can represent a heroic journey as they respond to whatever challenges they encounter."  I may have written too much, as my instructions were to write a paragraph. If so, I apologize. I hope to be a guest on your podcast, where I can tell the story of recovery as a heroic journey. Thank you. Michael Cowl Gordon, MD  Join Tom and Michael as he tells the rest of the story and takes your questions or comments via live chat.  ABOUT:  Michael Cowl Gordon, MD, opened the first detox program in Madison, WI, under the decriminalization of alcoholism statute in 1972. He became Medical Director of the Anderson Alcoholic Rehabilitation Hospital in Janesville, Wisconsin, in 1974 and later joined the Center for Psychiatry and the staff of the Brawner Psychiatric Institute in Atlanta. Gordon is now semi-retired but remains in practice as the Medical Director of the Berman Center, an Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospital Program.
