Here you will find a growing library of our recorded conversations about specific books of Scripture as well as some of our earlier Dive Studies. Come along with us as we take a slow and deliberate look at different books of the Bible and how each of them points us directly to Jesus as the complete and greatest expression of God’s love for us.     The Recap: S3 - E45

    We discuss the consequences of Manasseh’s life, the fact that Josiah’s righteousness couldn’t overcome Manasseh’s terror. This is an example of how every prophet priest and king in the Old Testament falls short of what we need. We are still longing for Jesus. Joel gives us a taste of the gift that the Holy Spirit will be for these Old Testament believers. Hebrews explains it all Erin talks about the fear of death is what keeps us in slavery. As believers we need to get over our fear of death, and then we will live in true freedom.

    The Recap: S3 - E44

    Leadership as idolatry and God’s response to idolaters in Hosea is to take them out to the wilderness and court them like a lover. Erin talks about her formation in leadership and identifies an area of idolatry in her life in the context of Hosea. Anneke and Erin discuss how to navigate relationships with Christians who hold to the form of godliness but deny its power. Paul permits us to avoid these people. We don’t need to be irreconciled, but we also don’t have to spend a lot of time with them. Anneke reminds Erin of the power of prayer to make a difference in people’s relationship with God. Anneke talks about self-control in Titus. Erin talks about the lack of acknowledgment of self in evangelical spirituality can be an obstacle to self-control. Finally, Philemon is discussed as an act of Allyship on Paul's part.

    The Recap: S3 - E43

    In this episode, I cut the content to make a short discussion on 1 Timothy 2. This is the first year we have had a male voice to help break down the typically false teachings around 1 Timothy 2. Women are definitely allowed to speak in church. Women are not prohibited from leadership in any capacity. Listen in as Wes and Erin break down the ways this passage has been misinterpreted and how a true interpretation should be formed.

    The Recap: S3 - E42

    We discussed radical Hospitality with Elisha and the Shumanite woman. The Shumanite woman is recognized forever because she entered into God’s power. She recognized the prophet and joined in the work of God. We need to be in spaces where we can bring all of who we are to the community. We remembered that God is still at work in the mess of his people. This is what gives us the freedom to stay or move on.

    The Recap: S3 - E41

    This week we talk about how messy the Old Testament is and the difference between the role of angels as messengers verses prophets as messengers. Anneke discusses her formation and how critical learning to wonder about the Scriptures is to her maturity. Wes addresses that people are hungry for the Gospel, and often why they're not interested in what we (as evangelicals) offer is because we think we have answers where we should be wondering.

    The Recap: S3 - E40

    In this episode Erin and Anneke talk about Solomon failing even though he had all of the natural resources of wealth and wisdom given to him by God Himself. We discuss the contrast of these limited resources compared to power of God's indwelling Spirit, which we have access to now. We discuss the way the Church today has access to the Spirit and still tries to accomplish so much in its own power leaving casualties to scatter to the Mountains. We talk about how God is faithful to work through a remnant of faithful ones by the power of The Spirit to bring back and tend to the scattered sheep. The Spirit of God is powerful and acts on our behalf.

    The Recap: S3 - E39

    In this episode Erin, Anneke and Wes talk about how the Scriptures are embodied in our stories. We talk about the importance of storytelling and how we need to allow the first person stories that God is writing inform our interpretations of Scripture rather than let Scripture inform the validity of another person’s story. This is a profoundly moving episode.

    In this episode Jeff, Izaak, Anneke, and Wes discuss David’s passivity in this section, the hard call of a prophet as well as Paul’s pastoral call to take the Gospel seriously and remember what is most important.
