Episode #5: Zach Friedley
In this episode, Aimee and Emily dive in deep with Zach Friedley on a variety of topics focused around inclusivity in sport. Zach Friedley is the founder of nonprofit Mendocino Movement Project, through which he hosts his own race for adaptive athletes, Born to Adapt. Zach is one of few professional above knee “trail-bladers,” running for On Running for the second year in a row in 2024. He is dedicated to making trails accessible to more people and helping expand the mindset of event producers to create a more inviting space for adaptive athletes.
You can follow along Zach’s journey on his social channels or check out the website to his nonprofits here.

Episode #4: Holly Benner
“Life is hard, but suffering is optional. We need each other to get the most out of ourselves. The word compete, we think, it’s because one person beats everyone else. But compete is latin for competere, which means to strive together. If you need help, reaching out is a strength.”
Holly Benner joins us on the podcast to discuss her recent smashing of the course record at The Long Run Spring Forward by The Running Kind. We scratch the surface on how she got into running, her background in sport & her upcoming goals for the 2024 race season. Holly shares her philosophies on coaching, as she coaches a variety of athletes and business professionals through her coaching business Metta Performance.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity, it comes from an indomitable will.” Gandhi
Metta Performance
“We believe that sustainable training, education, and purpose-driven community work together to build adaptability and resilience so that athletes can get their best results again and again.”

Episode #3: We're Going Vegan
"We don't need to farm animals, you know, to live, to be strong and to be top performing athletes. We can do all of that on a plant based diet. We can feel good about it and we can minimize that environmental impact and the suffering that happens. And it really just starts with you."
In Episode #3, Aimee and Emily talk about their journeys into veganism and why they made the shift. They dive into what it is like to be a plant-based athlete & eating for maximal performance gains. In addition to athletic performance, they discuss the ethical reasons for choosing a plant based diet and how that affected their decisions to choose vegan everyday.

Episode #2: Meet Your Hosts
“A year and a half ago I didn't think that I could do an hour loop on that mountain & on race day a lot of my times were sub-50 minute loops. For me that was a lot of confidence & showcasing that if you put some hard work in and work on that technical terrain you can see some big improvements.”
In this episode, Aimee and Emily introduce themselves to the listeners. We talk about some of our favorite local trails to run and how we both started our running journeys. We dive into our recent race efforts, Fastest Known Time efforts & what’s ahead for 2024.

Episode #1: Meet The Running Kind
“I think that’s what inspired me to do this. How can we not be fighting for the ground we’re running on… We’re here to put the power in your hands… and feet! Make some moves towards a sustainable future.”
In this episode, Aimee dives into how The Running Kind came to be, what the community has grown to become and what she hopes it will grow into. We talk about how The Running Kind developed into a family run operation, how we achieve carbon neutrality and announce the 2024 race schedule.
“One of the things I love most about The Running Kind is that it serves as a space where people can hopefully feel comfortable asking questions and learn more about veganism & sustainability in the running space.”
