    War on the Cold Periphery

    War on the Cold Periphery

The strategic situation that resulted in the Aleutian Islands campaign is rooted in the same events that shaped the Southwest Pacific, and the Central Pacific which we have discussed at length beginning way back in episode 18 but to recap: in the wake of Pearl harbor the Japanese exploded across the pacific, seizing land in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, New Guinea, the Solomons, and the Central Pacific in order to forge a massive island perimeter around the western Pacific. The Aleutian Islands, stretching from the tip of Alaska more than a thousand miles westward toward Asia, represented what the Japanese saw as the key to defending their North Eastern flank.

    Overpaid and Over Here

    Overpaid and Over Here

Like every other nation locked in the global struggle in 1944 the United States had become a warfare state. Unlike the people of almost every other nation that had mobilized for war however the average American suffered very little. Unlike the populations of the United Kingdom, Japan, the Soviet Union, or any other Eurasion country the civil population of the United States was not subject to marauding enemy armies or aerial bombardment or even significant shortages of goods. The isolation provided by the Atlantic and Pacific oceans along with the great bounty of the American interior meant few were ever really under threat of enemy action or privation.

A short look at what fascism is as a political movement and ideology. I have talked about fascism quite a bit but never defined it. This appendix corrects that.

Don't call me Lawrence ,

Great World War 2 information delivered flawlessly

Just stumbled across this podcast. Listened to the first ten episodes. I’m probably more of a US Civil war guy than WW2 but still feel I know much about the war my Dad fought in. The information is well researched and delivered flawlessly. I always feel I learn more about stuff I thought I knew everything about. Can’t recommend this podcast enough for anyone interested in full details about WW2 battles and persons of interest.
