After my 2012 Thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, my life was changed forever. The challenge of big adventure had me hooked. I soon set a goal of sailing alone and without stopping around the world. In 2017-18, I did just that! Since then I have taken my podcast aboard my Westsail32 as well as in my everyday life. The shows are a mix of my own past experiences along with interviews of everyday people that have a seemingly endless amount of stories themselves.

What started as a podcast about sailing has evolved into my way to sit down with people from all walks of life and share our experiences with the listener. I hope you enjoy the podcast and help it grow into the future.

EP#240 Jon Bilger Founder of Predict Wind

Today we have a heavy hitter on the podcast, Jon Bilger is the founder and CEO of Predict Wind, the world's premier weather forecasting and routing software used by millions of sailors around the world. As a low-tech sailor myself it was very interesting to listen to the advances in technology and plans for future improvements to help make sailing as safe as possible.  Big thanks to Jon for taking some time away from a very busy schedule to chat about one of the most valuable tools an offshore sailor can have.

EP#239 Back to Work, Morning Show

Today I rant and rave a bit about working and all that entails, I have been missing the type of work where you feel sore the next day and get your hands dirty.  But before I am off to the boat, I wanted to get the podcast in for all of my wonderful listeners. Plus, it has been a while since I did a solo show, thanks for listening!

    EP#238 Sail Measurements with Sven

Today we have a technical episode with Sven. He and I go over the 11-page form for taking measurements of the rig on a sailboat. If you are thinking of getting new sails made, chances are that you will be given this form if you want to do this yourself.  I used this recording to help me with the process a few days ago on Sparrow and it made filling in the forms a breeze.  Big thanks to Sven for sharing his time and expertise in this area.

    EP#237 Sailing Tech with Adam

Today I sit with my other brother, Adam, and talk about tech on sailboats the good and the bad, as well as some of the project that he was working on with that beautiful Westsail 32 Montana. Glad to have him on the show and can't wait to get into the world of boat surveys in the future.  Thanks for sharing your time and insight.

Inspiration Adventure = Jerome Rand!

Good thing that this pod comes out weekly (sometimes 2x a week!) as I can’t go too long without a good dose of the ol’ Jerome and his Sailing Into Oblivion pod! Jerome’s laid-back, easy-going, and jovial manner make him such a fantastic host — yet, what I most appreciate about Jerome is not just his ability to spin such an amazing yarn, but that he is 1000% incredibly open and honest about his life’s journey — bearing his soul, sharing not just the ‘wins,’ but the heartaches and challenges that life throws at him as well. That’s what makes me keep coming back, again and again, to this pod — to keep hearing how Jerome’s story continues to evolve; to grasp the valuable insight he shares from encountering so many life experiences. Love this one to the moon and back — definitely one of my most fav pods, hands-down! ~ Chelle of passagesfromtheheart

IA sailor ,

What kind of boat?

love listening to your podcast lots of knowledge and great stories, my question would be I live in Iowa close to a decent size lake and recently got in the sailing wondering what you think would be the best boat that I could learn up here in Iowa pull down to Florida and sail into the Bahamas?
I know that’s a very broad question but wondering maybe something under 30,000 and around 30 foot if you have any ideas that would be much appreciated!!

Consistently interesting

I had the good fortune to spend a weatherbound week in Ocean City with Jerome as my slip-neighbor, and in the year and a half since, I’ve been hooked on living vicariously through his podcast!
