The Salty Mums Podcast

Two mums, both podcast listeners, both at the same church. But we both felt there was something missing. Whilst we loved our faith or parenting podcasts, few podcasts seemed to bring the two together. And when they did, they were more about the mechanics of parenting- sibling rivalry, getting your kids to read the Bible etc. But what about dealing with all the cultural and social stuff we encounter as Mum’s every day? Divorce, grief, diversity, money, mental health, disability, going back to work, friendships, illness – the list is endless but they affect our lives as mothers and our walk with Jesus. When secular culture is talking about all these things and we can’t hear God in the discussion it can seem confusing and isolating. We felt called to add Jesus to the equation of life as a mum by sharing women’s stories and experiences of how Jesus has impacted their walk with him. Jesus tells us we’re “the salt of the earth” (Matt 5.13) and we need to keep salty- that means in our whole lives and that means we need to talk about where Jesus is in motherhood too.

Becky Sedgwick- being a single mum

On this week's episode we talk to Becky Sedgwick from Parenting for Faith, about being a single mum. It's a situation very few mothers plan for or expect, but many end up in. Becky tells her story of how her faith helped her in her darker moments (including a rather surprising verse God led her to from the Bible), and then we spend a long time unpacking what we can do as individuals and the Church to better support single parents. RESOURCES Becky has written a number of articles for Parenting for Faith on this topic; https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/post/helping-single-parents-flourish-in-church/ https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/post/when-fathers-day-isnt-easy/ https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/post/when-your-family-breaks-down/ https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/post/god-promises-to-be-a-father-to-the-fatherless-what-happens-if-we-take-him-at-his-word/ https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/post/lessons-from-my-wood/ https://www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/post/supporting-families-through-separation-and-divorce/ You can find Parenting for Faith @parentingforfaithbrf or at www.parentingforfaith.brf.org.uk/welcome.
