A podcast about the teacher journey and ideas for education reform. Jackie Scully, an experienced educator, is flipping the script when it comes to education and focusing on the teacher's voice. These voices are often overlooked in society, and many decisions are made without teacher input. The education system is in need of major repair, and there needs to be a mind shift. That mind shift starts by listening to the ones that work directly with children. The pandemic highlighted so many social issues, and now the spotlight is on education. The teachers are ready to take center stage and share their voice. Now is the time!
This podcast starts with a kickoff episode sharing my own story, and then 1 teacher interview will be posted each week on Sundays. If you go to my website you can also listen to all the episodes and subscribe to keep up to date with episodes and developments.
Ep.36-Lorraine Connell's Story-"Edupreneur Elevating Student Voice"
I interviewed Lorraine Connell who is a former Chemistry Educator and now is a Leadership Coach with her business Peers-not-fears. She is also the Creator/Host of Education Unimagined podcast where she interviews students about their ideas for education. She is the ultimate champion for students sharing their voice. Lorraine left teaching because she knew she had more to do to empower kids. She is working to build leadership in our youth through peer mentoring. A quote that stood out to me that was said by one of her students was "You know, Ms. Connell, we have always been wearing masks." There is so much truth and power in that statement. We have to listen to our kids! They know what we need to change in education and in the world.

Ep.35-Raheen Fatima's Story-“Gen Z Activist taking education into her own hands.”
I interviewed Raheen Fatima, who is an Entrepreneur, Gen Z Peace & Climate Activist, Podcaster, Speaker, Educator, and SDGs Ambassador. Raheen decided traditional school was not working for her. She left her school, did some research, connected with many experts on LinkedIn, and found the perfect school for her. She was also awarded a scholarship. The Socratic Experience is an online innovative school in the United States. TSE has transformed Raheen as a student and person. In her time at TSE, she has become a Tedx speaker and created innovative real-world application based projects. Raheen is 15 years old. This is Gen Z! They are the leaders of today and tomorrow!

Ep.34-Rachel & Rebecca's Story-“Teacher Patsy inspires her students to become teachers.”
I interviewed Rachel and Rebecca, who are both former refugees and former students of Patsy Koay (a good friend and guest who was on both Ep.11 and Ep.30 in Season 1). Rachel and Rebecca are originally from Myanmar and came to Malaysia for refuge. Patsy was their teacher and inspiration for both of them to go into education. Rachel is a Pre-K Art Teacher and Rebecca is a Teacher at the Early Childhood Creative Writing Center in Texas. They talk about resilience, passion for helping others, and how they have stayed connected with Patsy over the years. This is a continuation of the ripple effect. There is so much heart and joy in this story!
Ep.33-Lauren's Story-“My former student became a teacher at the height of the pandemic.”
I interviewed my former student, Lauren DePiero, who is now a middle school and high school English Teacher. She is also an Assistant Varsity Swim Coach at her school. She was an exemplary student and now is a passionate and courageous educator. Lauren started her teaching career at the height of the pandemic. She was thrown into a hybrid teaching model while she was a student teacher, and started her first contract position in that same mode. She speaks highly about being an educator while also realizing what we can fix in education. She is the type of educator we want to keep in the field. I am so honored to share her story with all of you. I love Gen Z educators!
S2-Ep.32-Jackie Scully-Diary Entry #3-"A New Year..A New Season!"
I kick off Season 2 with the first episode continuing the Diary Entry Series with Diary Entry #3. I talk about the holiday season, reflect on 2022, looking ahead to 2023, and preview the theme of the ripple effect in this season. My first interview of this new season will be on Sunday, January 8th featuring a former student of mine who is now a teacher. I am so excited to start Season 2 with all of you. Enjoy!
Ep.31-Jackie Scully-Diary Entry Series 2-"Fall Season at School + Thank you to my guests"
This is my last episode of Season 1. In this episode I share my experience at school during a busy fall as well as thank my 28 guests that were part of this season. I am taking a much needed holiday break between November 28th-December 31st. I want to rest and restore in December to get ready to kick off 2023.
Season 2 starts January 1st, 2023! I often talk about the ripple effect in my posts, and that will be a major theme in the next season. I cannot wait to share these stories with all of you. I wish for you all to have a restful and restorative holiday season. Happy Holidays!
Structured and Insightful Storytelling
I appreciate how each episode contains four sections. This framework builds familiarity for the listener and keeps the show focused. An additional point on the functionality is that the audio quality is clear, and you can tell that the author of the podcast puts in the time to edit the shows to make them precise and to the point. I listen to many podcasts, which means the time I spend listening really needs to offer interesting information that doesn’t waste my time. 🙂 Moving from functionality to content, the stories really capture your attention. I can only guess that the guests feel pretty fantastic to be able to share their insights.
We are at a point in the field of education where we need to acknowledge and validate our educators more than ever. We must find ways to give our teachers, administrators, and support staff voice and agency, especially after the pandemic. The Teacher Story podcast does this so well.
What Jackie is doing with The Teacher Story is long overdue. She’s bringing people from all areas of education to share how they got into the field and how things can improve or advance. While we may not all agree on what area of education is the best, we can learn little pieces from each of these guests to take forward to improve our educational spaces. Bravo.
Great insight into life from a teachers prospective
I’ve enjoyed listening to all of these teachers stories, how they got into teaching, where they’ve taught and how that fits in to their everyday/personal life.
