Captain Richard Andrew owner Tar-Pam Guide Service

Coach Dale "Diesel" Collins and Bobby "The Bearded Wonder" Bennett visit with special guest Captain Richard Andrew owner of Tar-Pam Guide Service.

Captain Richard Andrews is the owner of Tar-Pam Guide Service and has been involved in North Carolina’s charter fishing industry since 2001. Born and raised on the Tar River in Tarboro, North Carolina, he began fishing the rivers, estuaries, and gulf stream waters of Eastern North Carolina at an early age.  The day after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, he moved  to Hatteras Village to fulfill a lifelong dream of working as a mate on an offshore charter boat.  Capt. Richard fished full-time for five seasons with some of the best captains in the business out of Hatteras and Oregon Inlet, commercial bluefin tuna fished in the winter, and traveled by boat to Mexico, the Bahamas, and South Florida to chase various billfish species,  A highlight of his fishing career was a 2nd Place finish in the Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament with a crew of anglers consisting of 4 boys between the ages of 7 and 13.  During these years, he was able to refine his fishing skills, develop an understanding of seasonal fish patterns within North Carolina, and cultivate the patience and experience necessary for a professional charter business.

Capt. Richard also has a masters degree in Natural Resources from N.C. State University where his graduate research focused on stream and wetland ecology.  Soon learning  that a “real job” just isn’t for him, he decided to pursue his passion of guiding inshore fishing enthusiasts to new experiences in the remote fishery of the Inner Banks region of North Carolina.   His goal is to create for you the absolute best fishing experience possible and provide a professional and consistently high level of service for his guests.  He now resides in Bath with his wife, Austin, and two sons, Tripp and Henry.

Industry young gun Cabell Tice - World Latte art Champion not once, but three times - made the decision to settle down a few years back, selecting a small town - Waynesville - in the Smoky Mountains, all the way across the country for his hometown in Hawaii.  Along with his family he opened Orchard Coffee, and with some of his considerable expereince at the helm, the whole operation felt important from day one, and over time, only more so these days, one of the country's best small-town cafes is backed, rather strongly, by its own roasting operation known as Steamline Coffee. .................David Landsel March 11, 2022

Orchard coffee is located just up the street from our Waynesville shop making it a convenient stop for those visiting Tuckaseegee Fly Shop.  You are greeted by smiling professionals that start your day off with enthusiasm that only small town America can provide.  Mix in some amazing aromas couple with a fresh Blueberry Muffin and you will be set for a day of adventure.

State of the Industry plus 2022 Goals

Coach Dale "Diesel" Collins, Bobby "The Bearded Wonder" Bennett, and Shannon "Big Mess" Messer start off 2022 on a good note.  A few new whiskeys mixed in with the state of the fly fishing industry makes for a pretty good start for 2022.

We sip some Memphis Hot Toddy and a Maryland Rye in this episode.  We were pleasantly surprised by the rye and the Memphis Hot Toddy is dangerous.  Bobby says, "It's like eating Red Hots candy".  I was told it was Christmas in a bottle and I would have to agree.  Definitely check both of these out.

2021 wrap up plus a bit of whisky drinking

2021 wrap up plus a bit of whisky drinking

Coach Dale "Diesel" Collins, Bobby "The Bearded Wonder" Bennett, and Shannon "Big Mess" Messer along with special guest the Georgia Drifter wrap up 2021.

The crew laughs and tries a few whiskies, one from Japan and of course a nice bourbon.  Learn about the Christmas Tree that was attacked by squirrels or at least Dale thinks it was.  Do we have a Christmas Lights competition in the works in Webster?

What do you think about seeing photos of fish on social media of your favorite fishing location?  Is this a form of hot spotting?  Let us know what you think.

Great podcast, with one suggestion

I love the show, especially the episodes where they accidentally talk about fly fishing for a few minutes in the middle of their ESPN weekly sports review podcast. How about more fishing and a lot less foozball?

Top notch!

Tuck Fly Shop has nailed it with their podcast. Genuine, full of expertise plus laughs and simply well done. Always a pleasure listening and learning.

Great podcast!

Fantastic Podcast, this is why we at Norvise decided to sponsor several episodes. Shannon, Dale and Bobby actually have me laughing out loud some times when they get going. Funny at it is informative, this is one podcast I look forward to each week. Give the “Tuck Cast with a Splash of Bourbon” a listen, you will be glad you did.
