    Ep 63: Hurricane Ida batters the east coast, Patriots cut Cam Newton, DaBaby meets with HIV-Awareness organizations, Lil Nas X’s maternity shoot & more

    This week we begin with a recap of Hurricane Ida heading north. The storm brought catastrophic levels of rain to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the country, triggering statewide emergencies. With the NFL season around the corner, teams had to trim their rosters down to the final 53 players. And, in a surprising move, the New England Patriots released former NFL MVP Cam Newton which signified they are all in on their 1st round draft pick, former Alabama QB Mac Jones. DaBaby is back in the news as a result of meeting with a group of nine HIV-Awareness organization. Que not only reads some quotes that were part of a joint statement on behalf of all groups involved but also shares why DaBaby has a ways to go with regards to making amends. Lil Nas X popped out with maternity photos to symbolize the birth of his baby (debut album). This wasn’t without ridiculous outrage but some fair criticism was levied at the pop star.     This episode begins with a brief diatribe about Hurricane Ida which touched down in Louisiana a couple days ago. The storm brought historical winds and a torrential downpour. Boosie sat down with The Breakfast Club for an interview regarding his most recent comments about one Lil Nas X. Que runs down the rapper’s comments and asks why is a platform like that giving oxygen to a known homophobe? August 26 marked 5 years since Colin Kaepernick began his national anthem protest. Que takes the listeners down memory lane and recaps how Colin has gone on to become bigger off the field than he ever was on the field. A federal court ruled in favor of upholding Dylan Roof’s execution. Que explains although people found cause for celebration he didn’t and why the death penalty must go. Greg Abbott had previously done away with mask mandates and with school beginning, some districts took it upon themselves to enforce their own form of the aforementioned mask mandate. Que offers a look back at the one-year (albeit belated) anniversary of CardI B and Meg Thee Stallion’s chart topping ode to women’s sexual agency, “WAP” New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker went viral last week after a video of him making sarcastic comments after a vote passed surrounding the defunding of the police. Listen in as Que takes the politician to task for completely whiffing on the moment. The NCAA handed down a punishment to Baylor but not for their failure in reporting sexual assault claims. Que takes the listener down memory lane about the scandal which first started off as a football story but then wound up highlighting a campus-wide failure in how violence against women was handled. She withdrew from an event at the Olympics due to her mental health and suffered widespread criticism.     Ep 58: Texas’ “Anti-CRT” Bill, NBA Finals review, NFL COVID-19 memo, “Donda” listening party & more

    This week’s episode begins with a review of a Texas legislature known as “SB 3”. The bill  strips out most mentions of women and people of color in that section. It also removes the requirement to teach “the history of white supremacy, including but not limited to the institution of slavery, the eugenics movement, and the Ku Klux Klan, and the ways in which it is morally wrong.” With a win in game six, the Milwaukee Bucks secured their first NBA title since the days of Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1971. Giannis Antetokounmpo was named Finals MVP in part to his historic performance. Que gives the listeners a recap of these Finals and waxes poetically about Giannis. NFL sent out a leaguewide memo that laid out the consequences should a team suffer an outbreak heading into next season. That then brought on many players taking to social media and voicing their feelings, Cardinals WR Deandre Hopkins even threw out possibly retiring. Kanye West was back in the news courtesy of hosting a listening party at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta. This event reportedly broke an Apple Music streaming record.     This week’s episode of TWAL begins with the story of ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith finding himself in the world of trouble as a result of comments he made on an episode of “First Take” about Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim star player Shohei Othani. Listen as Que explains where Smith made a salient point but ended up veering off the path. Next, last week marked six years since Sandra Bland was found dead from suicide in a Texas jail as a result of an encounter with a local officer. Que revisits the series of events that led to a tragic ending and added another name to an ever growing list of victims. With the Olympics around the corner Team USA basketball is in tune-up mode by playing a slate of exhibition games. Two early losses had everybody in panic mode and questioning if their reign at the top is over. A rash of protests have taken off in the country of Cuba. They come from the citizens being fed up with a host of things that have long been a problem. Listen as Que offers his take and why this isn’t the time to sing the praise of capitalism.
