Theatre Countdown

This is easily one of my favorite shows to listen to each week! The banter between the two hosts and the contrasts in their choices makes discovering new songs and shows exciting and listening to songs and shows you already know nostalgic. Their unapologetic rankings make me laugh and are a great start to my mornings!

I started listening to this podcast when I found the flops episode, and I don’t miss a Monday now! People say rankings are arbitrary and reductive, and this podcast cranks that notion to 11. Up is down, right is left, cat is dog, but it somehow all makes sense in the end. Probably because the hosts on both seasons feel like my friends at brunch explaining to me why Andrew Lloyd Webber is Broadway’s best composer when we all know we should be ranking West End and Broadway separately! Keep the rankings coming!

This podcast is the best new listen I’ve added to my catalog in 2024. I look forward to new episodes and have been listening to prior episodes between releases. The hosts are delightful and hilarious. This show has made me a better musical theatre fan, as a west coaster who doesn’t get to Broadway but one or two times a year.

Definitely in a small handful of shows i listen to regularly. Lived in NYC for almost a decade where theatre was a major part of my life. Moved to DC a year ago, working as a arts administrator, and while still go to a ton of shows down here, this podcast keeps me connected to the scene in nyc and around the world. Hosts are wonderfully chaotic and brilliantly funny. The games at the beginning are great, and I like how they are starting to branch into new categories so the lists are including more than the big standard shows we already know and love. Would love episodes on top 10 underrated shows, cult classics, and biggest flops.
