You believe in Jesus and His word, but sometimes, connecting the dots between your faith and your life is hard. You want to live for Jesus but struggle to live out what you know. And let’s face it, life interrupts our best attempts to study the word of God consistently. When it feels like your theology (study/knowledge of God and His word) is far removed from what you are experiencing in your life, I pray this space is a place where you can dive deeper into God’s word with me. “Theology at Home” is where we discover fresh insights into God’s word to help us hold onto our faith in all life's ups and downs without compromise. Learning about God and His Word should not be in a hostile environment. Theology at home is a space full of truth and grace. What we believe about God and His word is not just knowledge but living truth that informs how we navigate life and the surrounding culture. Theology is not just for the academically-minded. It's for everyone. While everyone can be a theologian, the question is, what kind of theologian are you?     Ep. 7 What Did Jesus Really Think About Divorce?

    Have you found yourself in a difficult marriage where you are abused or your spouse has been unfaithful? Have you wondered if you are allowed to get a divorce or felt condemned by others if you have been divorced? The Bible speaks a lot about divorce and has answers to all our questions, but we need to understand first what the Scriptures were saying in the time they were spoken into. Understanding God’s heart about divorce is not about rules void of compassion. His commands are full of love and have our best interests in mind. And sometimes the scenarios we find ourselves up against in this life are not cut and dry. Some beliefs I had about divorce were handed down to me. I think that’s the thing with theology. We have things handed down to us that we don’t ever examine for ourselves to see what scripture is really saying. Then, when devastating circumstances happen, we aren’t prepared and don’t know how to navigate traumatic events.  Listen in as biblical scholars weigh in on this difficult topic of divorce. But more importantly, listen in to what Jesus is saying and what He isn't saying.

    In a recent Gallup Poll, a record-low 20% of Americans now say the Bible is the literal word of God. This Gallup poll also found that a new high of 29% say the Bible is a collection of “fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man.” This marks the first time more Americans have viewed the Bible as not divinely inspired than as the literal word of God. Is the Bible really true? How can we know that it is? And why does this matter? That’s today’s discussion on Theology at Home.     I have heard it said in recent years that we are all theologians. My response to this statement is a question: What kind of theologian are you? Why does Theology matter? Theology matters because what we believe shapes our lives. Sound biblical theology makes sense of our suffering. What we believe about God reframes our suffering and drastically impacts how we live.  Our theology ought to frame up our expectations for this life. Not the other way around. Our expectations should not shape our theology.
