THEOTIVITY | Theology, Creativity & Culture

THEOTIVITY is a podcast where theology and creativity come together. Many Christians and creatives today are ill-equipped to deal with the challenges of increasingly secular culture. Yet creatives tend to be the influencers and creators of culture's icons that shape our societies. We need a robust and biblical understanding of theology so that we can apply it to today's issues. On this podcast, you'll find audio narrations of articles, interviews with Christian thinkers and creatives, and commentary on how the Biblical world-and-life view impacts every area of life.

077 | Mission Work and the Book of Revelation (ft. Dave Forsythe)

What does the book of Revelation and mission work have to do with each other? Dave Forsythe is a missionary and church planter who has written a commentary based on Puritan expositions of John's Apocalypse published by Founders Press. In this episode we talk about his experience on the mission field and what role eschatology plays in mission work as well as his journey to his eschatological viewpoint. We chat about his new commentary, "Vengeance Has Come: A Puritan-Minded Exposition of the Apocalypse for the Modern Church" and why it's important for today. He also discusses why the dating of the book of Revelation matters to our interpretation. 076 | Why start Niagara Classical Academy? (ft. Ryan Eras)

Ryan Eras, headmaster of Niagara Classical Academy sits down to talk with us about why they're starting a Classical Christian Academy in the Niagara region, what it's about and why it's important. A classical and Christian education is a method of teaching and of seeing the world. It has its origins in the classical, Greco-Roman era of history. It is a very time-tested method of education to train people to become self-governing citizens. It is interested in what makes something good, true, and beautiful, or what keeps it from being those things. A classical Christian education is a deliberate work of forming the soul of the student. The academics are rigorous, but our emphasis is on modelling and cultivating virtue rather than academics because unless virtue is being practiced, academics cannot follow. ▶️ UP NEXT: Public School vs Christian Education ✅ Niagara Classical Academy: https://niagaraclassical.com/ ✅ Follow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/niagaraclassical/ ✅ Check out upcoming events: https://niagaraclassical.com/about/events/ *RESOURCES* 📘 Classical Education and the Homeschool - https://amzn.to/4c2Rc4W 📘 Wisdom and Eloquence: A Christian Paradigm for Classical Learning - https://amzn.to/4aX0Uoi 📘 An Introduction to Classical Education - https://amzn.to/4bWkthZ 📘 Shaping Hearts and Minds: A Case For Classical Christian Education - https://amzn.to/4c7fPxa ----------------- ℹ️ https://www.theotivity.com/ 📩 Newsletter: https://theotivity.com/newsletter/ 💰 Donate: https://www.givesendgo.com/theotivity ➡️ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theotivity ➡️ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theotivity/ ➡️ Twitter: https://twitter.com/theotivity

074 | Is the Pope Catholic? - Pope Francis & Infallibility (ft. Dr. Tony Costa)

Dr. Tony Costa discusses several problematic issues with Pope Francis and analyzes the various problems with the Roman Catholic doctrine of Papal Infallibility. In this episode, we discuss some of the scandals that Pope Francis has been through including changing views on divorce, universalism, the denial of Hell, being accused of heresy by Catholic theologians and more. We examine the top theological issues with Pope Francis and whether he could be legitimately considered a heretic by both Catholics and Protestants. We also look at reasons why Pope Francis has pushed leftward on many issues and consider whether the Roman Catholic doctrine of Papal Infallibility holds any weight. This is an episode we hope will help Protestants and Catholics alike think carefully about these issues and equip them for fruitful conversations. Tony Costa earned a B.A. and M.A. in Biblical Studies from the University of Toronto and earned his Ph.D in New Testament and Theology from Radboud University in the Netherlands. He is a professor of apologetics at the Toronto Baptist Seminary. 071 | The Feminization of the Church and the Need for Masculine Christianity (ft. Zachary Garris)

Author and Pastor Zachary Garris talks about the problem of the feminization of the Evangelical Church and the need to recover the masculine nature of Biblical Christianity. We discuss some compromises of Complementarianism, how feminism crept into the church and how God's design for the sexes extends beyond just the home and church. Complementarianism, which started off as a movement with good intentions to preserve the distinction of gender roles in response to Evangelical Feminism in the 1980s fell short in many ways of the older, more Biblical understanding of Patriarchy. We also tease out some of the related problems with Radical Two Kingdoms Theology (R2K) and how it may be symptomatic or a contributing cause of the feminization of the church. Lastly, we touch on some issues of cultural engagement and political theory. Buy the book - 📘 Masculine Christianity by Zachary Garris - https://amzn.to/4aOKAXy Zachary Garris serves as pastor of Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church (PCA) in White Rock, New Mexico. He holds a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson, Mississippi) and a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School.
