NationalInterest : What’s common between Netflix Chamkila and Trudeau’s trouble-infested Canada? They don’t get Punjab & it’s dangerous…
Even in the weeks leading up to Chamkila’s assassination, there were massacres every other day. To airbrush all of this is sheer intellectual cowardice, if not a crime. And you know what, just as smug Bollywood filmmakers would like us to believe now that what Punjab — and the Sikhs — endured in 1988 was just some bad crime, Trudeau’s Canadians now see the Sikh diaspora gangs in their countries, who’ve all slipped through their immigration filters, though the same lens. Watch this week's #NationalInterest with ThePrint Editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta

Punjab’s 2-Decade Stall
Do you see people lining up to leave only in Punjab? I would like to see similar Cut The Clutter on similar sized states (based on population). I see plenty of people leaving from states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Kerala to foreign lands such as the usual US, UK, Canada and the middle-east but also to now Australia, New Zealand and others. Imo, this is a larger growth issue, and inability of the governments both at state level and the Center to create enough jobs with living wages to support a family. Unless that’s addressed the exodus out of India will continue and may accelerate. Look at the stats of people giving up citizenship. It hit record 250,000+ after COVID pandemic. The government policies have to change to move people from low-returns agricultural jobs to higher paying industrial jobs in millions.

Journalism
Shekhar Gupta has a flair and simple in presenting facts, presenting multiple viewpoints. I loved his Walk the Talk on NDTV which sadly has been discontinued. It would be nice to see him outdoors from his office, but keep up the good work. I like his honesty in asking for subscriptions. I hope a lot of viewers actually subscribe. .
