    Christmas Rappin'

    Christmas Rappin'

So, we've reached that time of year that no matter where you are, in a mall, grocery store, movie theater, watching TV and hearing a commercial, Christmas music is everywhere. So, it is officially holiday music season. So, that's what we're gonna be talking about on this episode. We're talking about Christmas songs and the ones we like, the ones we don't like, why some of us hate Christmas music, why some of us love Christmas music.

    This Is The Remix

    This Is The Remix

This week we are talking about something that we've mentioned on this pod a lot. How many times have we talked about a song that we love that wasn't the original, it wasn't on the album, but it was on the cassette or the CD single? Or sometimes it was a music video. Yeah, it was similar, but there were some differences that made it stand out, and most cases made it better. So, for this episode, we're talking about the remix. We're gonna talk about some of our favorites, some we don't like as much, and some that we just completely forgot about.

Giancarlo Esposito: Hey Sal, How Come You Ain’t Got No Brothas Up On The Wall?

Giancarlo Esposito: Hey Sal, How Come You Ain’t Got No Brothas Up On The Wall?

On this episode, we're talking about a man whose career spans decades. A versatile actor who has the range to play a menacing drug kingpin as well as a talking mirror. He's probably best known for his role as Gus Fring on Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul. You may also know him as Buggin' Out from Do the Right Thing or more recently, Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. Join us as we're talking about a few of our favorite performances by Giancarlo Esposito.

    Trackmasters: Respect

    Trackmasters: Respect

This week we’re talking about a production team that had a major influence on a time in hip hop that we spoke about in the last episode, the so-called “jiggy, shiny suit, bling bling era.”
Even though they had been around since 1990 doing tracks for act like Chubb Rock, Kool G. Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante and The Real Roxanne, 1994 is when they really started to shine. Making albums and tracks for LL Cool J, Nas, Foxy Brown, Jay-Z, J. Lo, Will Smith, 50 Cent.
You can arguably say that the sound of hip hop & R&B music was defined by them. They have 23 number one singles and five Grammy awards, we're talking about Poke & Tone, the Trackmasters.

    73 'til Infinity - Part 2: A #HipHop50 Conversation

    73 'til Infinity - Part 2: A #HipHop50 Conversation

A couple weeks ago we did an episode dedicated to the first 50 years of hip hop. There was a lot to go over and a lot to cover, so we had to break it up into two episodes. We're only gonna get about 8% of it. But we are back on this episode to pick up where we left off. We finished up the last episode talking about the Golden Era, and on this episode we're gonna start with what is known as the Bling Bling Era through current day hip hop.

coolness1920 ,

Love the Podcast!

For starters, the speaking voices of the hosts are so pleasant to listen to. I wonder if Miguel ever worked in radio, haha. I also love how knowledgeable they of R&B/Hip-Hop and Black film (a huge interest of mine). So much history I’ve learned over the course of listening. Clever title with the ode to Pete Rock. Everyone should check Christina and Miguel’s amazing podcast where they give flowers to some of our favorite singers, rappers and actors ❤️

Can’t wait for more #TROYhive 😊

Christina and Miguel have a great chill energy. These episodes have taken me back to some of my favorite music and I am now deep into my 90s and early 2000s playlists. Thanks for the reminders! I look forward to more episodes.
