010: What do our Words Say About Our Thoughts

Whether you know it or not, your thoughts are directly responsible for the results that you are getting in your life. This month we're going to focus on our mindset and how to become aware of and change the thoughts that we have about ourselves. This week we're going to take a deep dive into the words that we use when we have conversations with others. Both when we talk about ourselves or just have a normal conversation about life and stuff. We open the episode by looking at how we talk about ourselves. What do you say to yourself when you make a mistake? When you do poorly at a job or a task? What is the first thought that comes to mind? Do you call yourself names? Say things like, "Ugh, I'm such an idiot" or "I'm a moron" or even something as simple as "I suck" Do you say depreciating things to yourself? Do you think or say things like "I can't do anything right" or "I never have any good ideas" or "I give up" These things may seem harmless or we may not give them a second thought but think for a moment. Is this something that you would say to your kids? Is it something you would say to a co-worker? These types of comments are extremely harmful to our own well-being. Your subconscious doesn't have a sense of humor. It simply believes what you tell it. Even if you don't mean it when you start saying it, if it's repeated enough times you will eventually begin to believe it and we know that this is not true. You have greatness in you and unlimited potential. Words are powerful. Talking bad about yourself gives other people permission to treat you poorly. We talk about this and explain why nobody can treat you better than you treat yourself. Words that use are seen through our own perception of ourselves so even good intentions can be misunderstood if your perception of yourself isn't in good standing. After that we dive into everyday phrases that we use that keep us attached to lack and limitation. We give you simple but effective phrases to replace these with to help you get into the mindset that is tuned to abundance rather than lack. It can be overwhelming to work on the entire list at once. Focus on one at a time and spend some time being hyper aware and intentional about using the replacement phrases instead.

008: How Self-care Fits Into Our Social Life

This week we talk about why self-care is important. We talk about how taking care of ourselves makes us better people. When we take care of ourselves we have the capacity to better care for others. Social self-care is all about the relationships in our lives. When life gets busy it’s commonplace to ignore the social side of our lives. We get so busy doing that we forget about the friends in our lives and that area of our life slowly shrinks. Hear real examples of how this applies to our lives on a daily basis and what you can do to nurture the social side of your life. This is a great reminder that we are in control of our own choices and that there are ways to adjust our choices to create the results that we want. The great news is that you get to make the decision. Tips on how to start digging into social and mental self-care Go slow Start as small as you need to don’t let the idea or activity overwhelm you Pick one thing and master it before you layer more Schedule time for self-care Stick to your plan, it’s OK to say no When you’re starting, make it practical Make it easy Make it fun Find someone to share accountability with Make the activity highly rewarding Look for where activities already fit in your schedule Take care of your brain too: Puzzles, Sudoku, Writing, Reading etc. Making new friends takes a long time. When we neglect our social self-care it can entail pushing friends to the side because we don’t have time. Over time this can be damaging to relationships and then we may no longer have them. It takes a long time to make new friends so it’s actually easier to keep the ones we have and spend time with them. 006: All About Physical Selfcare

All types of self-care are important and this week we’re talking about how and why we should take care of our physical bodies. When we don’t take care of our physical bodies, they break down in a lot of different ways. We become tired and rundown. We can develop medical problems and we’re just not able to live our best life. The thing about self care is that only you can do it for yourself. No one else can provide self-care for you. So let’s talk about some ways to take care of ourselves. One thing we can do is have a regular sleep routine. Setting a time to sleep and time to wake up is a good start. If you struggle to sleep, shutting off all electronics 30 minutes before bed can help. Another tip to help with physical self-care is to reflect on your day. How did you show up in the world. Is it how you wanted to show up. Doing this consistently will help you make different choices as you become the person you want to be which will help with all types of self-care. Eating a healthy diet is a great physical self-care activity too. Find a routine that works to make healthier choices and that can be different for each of us. Start now. Start whenever it works for you. You don’t have to start “at the beginning”. Other things you can do is start small. Make simple recipes. Make sure that you are eating throughout the day. Don’t skip meals. Find an accountability partner. Give yourself permission to take the time for the things that are important to take care of yourself. You CAN take the time. Other Ideas for self care include: Getting a haircut or new hair style, showering or bathing, getting a massage, be aware of what’s going on around you and have a plan.
