In the early 1990s, a cache of abandoned newsletters found its way from a safety deposit box in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the state’s historical society, where they were left to gather dust. The newsletters detailed the inner workings of a secret 1970s swingers society: The Silver Chain Social Club.

Fifty years later, TV writer and host Paul Ditty tracks down the club’s surviving members to uncover the group’s mysterious history and the ties that connected its members long after the swingers club closed its doors for good.

Great podcast

I really enjoyed this and wish I’d heard about it sooner.

Jimmy Carter’s lust

I just listened to episode 8.5. It sounded like you are not familiar with the interview Jimmy Carter did with Playboy (I think when he was running for president in 1976). He admitted to looking at women with lust and ‘committed adultery in my heart’. So the reference the book made wasn’t correct (ie no lust in the heart) but something similar was said and was quite controversial in 1976.

I really enjoyed this podcast. It’s incredible to me that ‘all that’ was going on in secret. The culture was so different then - people were so repressed, they didn’t talk about sex at all.
