    Paul Tobin and PJ Holden Interview - Dark Pyramid

    Horror is one of my favorite genres and I’ve often heard horror creators on the show talk about avoiding a modern setting in their work. How do you deal with technology, cell phones, and social media? It’s way easier to just drop it in the nostalgia of the 80s before much of that happened and we’ve seen an explosion of popular IPs set in the era of Pac Man and MTV, but what if you had a horror story with a social media influencer as the protagonist putting their experience front and center in front of a live worldwide audience? That’s the hook of the new five issue mini-series Dark Pyramid from Mad Cave Studios and I’m lucky enough to have co-creators Eisner Winning comics writer Paul Tobin and his extraordinary artist accomplice PJ Holden to tell us all about it on today's episode. Truthfully, prior to my interest in this book, I didn't know all that much about the Dark Pyramid in Alaska. Conspiracy theorist I am not, but it does make for an interesting backdrop to this folk horror take in rural Alaska. We get into how the myth inspired some of the book's elements, how using a protagonist who is documenting their life live works in a horror story, and PJ tells us all about his experience starting improv.     Today's guest on the Cryptid Creator Corner has worked in comics as both an editor and a writer since 2008.     Tony Parker Interview - Medusa

    Bouncer union unit! To the best of my knowledge, this is the second time we've hosted a former bouncer on the show. It's not something I normally get to discuss and definitely the first time I've ever gotten to ask the question, "What was your Marvel bouncer personality?" But this isn't a podcast about bouncing, it's actually all about one of my favorite graphic novels of 2024, it's just that bouncing actually can be applied to the book. That book is Medusa from Dark Horse Comics created by writer/illustrator Tony Parker who is today's show guest.     Ron Marz Interview

    Today's guest on the Cryptid Creator Corner needs no introduction, but here goes anyway. Among others, he's written for Marvel (Silver Surfer), DC (Green Lantern), Dynamite, Valiant, Image, Dark Horse, and CrossGen. He's written Batman/Aliens, DC versus Marvel, Green Lantern versus Aliens, and the Amalgam Comic Doctor StrangeFate. He wrote Hal Jordan becoming a villain, basically started the "Women in Refrigerators" trope, and withstood the H.E.A.T. of a mid-90s campaign to have him fired from writing DC Comics. It's Ron Marz! Ron joins Jimmy to talk about his long career in comics, the stories he likes to tell, and which characters he still hopes to tackle. Ron talks about some of his experiences attending conventions all over the World and why he enjoys them. This is a wide-ranging conversation with one of the greats.
