On the surface, it is similar to many of Ireland's more rural villages however scratch the surface and you will hear stories of the cults that called it home for 20 years. Between 1974 and 1992, two cults chose Burtonport as their home, and brought controversy, news reporters and unrest to the otherwise sleepy village.
