Touched Out with Amanda Montei

The Feminist Mom Podcast

I am super thrilled to be sharing this conversation that I had with Amanda Montei. Amanda is the author of TOUCHED OUT: MOTHERHOOD, MISOGYNY, CONSENT, AND CONTROL, out this month, September, 2023 from Beacon Press. She's also the author of a memoir called Two Memoirs and a collection of prose titled The Failure Age.

Amanda's work has been featured in the New York Times, The Cut, Romper, Mother Tongue, Slate, Vox, and more. I came across Amanda's work in 2020 during the pandemic. I had been really drawn to journalists who were writing about motherhood at the time and came across Amanda's work. I subscribed to her newsletter on Substack called Mad Woman and really have enjoyed and learned a lot from her feminist commentary on politics, pop culture, and most of all motherhood.

On this episode we talk about touched out, both the book that is coming out, but also the concept. Amanda really unpacks the concept and discusses the sense that once you become a mother, your body doesn't feel like it really belongs to you anymore. It's like it belongs to our kids, or it belongs to our partners. I hope you enjoy this smart, informative, and thought-provoking discussion.
