STORY 1: Two sought in ambush shooting
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two suspects who ambushed and shot a man multiple times at a Lakeside Circle home on Tuesday night around 8:25 p.m. Residents in the Fairview Estates and Highgate subdivisions are urged to check their video cameras for footage of the suspects, believed to have been on foot between 7:45 p.m. and 8:35 p.m. Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact Investigator Dunston at 678-625-1589.
STORY 2: City To Hold Third Annual 'State Of The City' Event
Madison Mayor Fred Perriman and the City Council will host the third annual State of the City address on Thursday, March 13, at 6 p.m. at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. The free event will honor community volunteers with the “Madison Award,” featuring videos of their contributions before they accept their recognition. The evening includes performances by local scouts, Union Spring Baptist Church’s Kathy Hubbard, and the Madison-Morgan Boys and Girls Club. The 90-minute event concludes with a light reception, and doors open at 5:30 p.m.
STORY 3: Fired Newton employee files age discrimination lawsuit
Former Newton County Fire Services employee Glenn Mikos has filed a federal lawsuit alleging wrongful termination due to age discrimination. Mikos, over 40 and part of a protected class, claims he was replaced by a younger, less qualified individual and that the county failed to address harassment complaints or provide an appeal process. He was fired in 2023 after an investigation into SCUBA gear purchases from a business he co-owned, which the county said bypassed the bid process. Mikos argues the county knew of his business ties and had used the vendor for years. He seeks damages under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

STORY 4: Americana Women To Hold Performance, Workshop At MMCC
The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center will host “Americana Women” on Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. as part of its 23rd Annual Madison Music Festival. This New York City-based band celebrates American folk music, performing classics from artists like Joan Baez and Dolly Parton, alongside original songs. Tickets are $30 and available online. Earlier that day, at 2 p.m., the group will lead a free “Americana Women Student Workshop,” featuring performances, instrument demos, and discussions on folk music’s history and women’s impact in the industry. Both events take place at the Center’s historic auditorium.
STORY 5: Missing man found dead at construction site
The body of Brandon Sistrunk, a 39-year-old Rockdale County man missing since Feb. 20, was found Tuesday at a Newton County construction site. Sistrunk, who suffered from mental health issues, was discovered unresponsive by workers returning to the site after a week. He had been reported missing on Feb. 24, prompting a BOLO and a Mattie’s Call alert. Authorities believe no foul play is involved, but the cause of death is under investigation pending the medical examiner’s report.
