Workplace Jealousy: Defeating the Green Eyed Monster

As monsters go, Jealousy is one of the scariest. Nothing makes you feel less safe than being the target of someone's envy. You don't know who you can trust or what (mis)perceptions your coworkers might have about you. Listen in to learn how to thrash Ol'Green Eyes. Jealousy feeds on lack. Any situation where resources like a promotion, raise, leadership role, positive attention, etc. are scarce can spawn it. Jealousy uses confirmation bias as a weapon. When someone is jealous, they become blind to a person's good qualities and hyper fixated on their shortcomings. You can use Jealousy as a mirror. When you understand what activates it, you can gain a lot of clarity about the big picture and interpersonal dynamics. Comparisons with others give Jealousy superpowers. Comparisons to your past selves gives you superpowers as you appreciate how far you've come. Remember to factor in personal priorities so you see your whole life, not just your work life. Collaborations are a Jealousy repellent because they create "parallel" work opportunities help everyone play to their strength instead of wasting energy trying to one up each other. How to Overcome Imposter Syndrome

You might not be a world class expert or the ultimate authority on an issue you care about. Maybe you can't teach the graduate level class on it. Guess what?  Most people need the intro level information. And you can share it. In a way that's far more relatable and useful than most experts. Listen in to this episode to overcome imposter syndrome and leverage who you are and what you know. Imposter syndrome is most likely to inflict people who feel they don't belong. Yet your voice as a young professional, woman, minority reflects a much needed diverse and accessible point of view. You know you have Imposter syndrome if you've dealt with any of the following: fear of failing, fear of success/being too visible, perfectionism, analysis paralysis, overperfoming, chasing qualifications. Don't wait and hope for an opportunity. Make one for yourself by taking action instead of waiting for permission. Celebrate the little wins- they build momentum and provide you with the receipts that prove you are not a fraud. Is Your Job Default or Deliberate? Find Work You Love Doing.

Stop being the pick me person. You know, the one who tries way to hard but still doesn't get the payoff. In this episode, you'll get the downlow on how to focus on what you want to be known for. There are no accidents. Your fear of success is the only thing blocking you from opportunities. Focusing on what you want to be known for is way different than ambition. It's your differentiator, your personal brand, how you are inspired to make a difference. Once you understand your brand, you can easily determine whether to say yes to an opportunity (even if it feels terrifyingly risky) or whether it's not the best use of your valuable time, talent and energy. When you communicate your brand, others start to bring you opportunities for things you actually want to do. Be clear about what you want, but open to the fact that it can look different that the way you thought it would. You will evolve as a person and your life circumstances will change, but your why will keep you consistently moving toward a life and job you love. Nothing is ever wasted. Every aligned action is helping to build the foundation of the success you want. From Accomplice to Your Own Struggle to Advocate for Your Success and Well Being

*womp womp* You walked out of that meeting feeling about 3" tall. Listen in to hear how I stopped being an accomplice to other people and shifted to being an advocate for my own success. Become better at listening and understanding others by being present, reading the room, having empathy and meeting others where they are. Verify that your understanding of someone's communication is correct and not distorted by the bias of your own assumptions. Mirror positivity: learn more by listening to Episode 108 Mirroring and Magnetism: Techniques for Positive Outcomes here https://architecting.podbean.com/e/mirroring/ You are an accomplice when you meet adversity with more adversity and multiply what you don't want. You are an accomplice when your insecurities or limiting beliefs cause you to accept the premise of someone's criticism and define your worth. You are an accomplice when your personal standards are low and make you available for poor treatment. Positivity leads to possibilities. Be an advocate for yourself instead of an accomplice in feeling bad.
