37. Finding Purpose Where You Are: What Do You Do When You Don't Have a Date to the Dance?
Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 14th at 7pm Central, because I am going to be doing a 15 minute live video training that I believe will help you overcome any stress and anxiety that you might be feeling…and overcome any insecurities that might be holding you back. After the 15 minute live training, I am then going to open it up for you all to ask me questions live! Head on over to uncommonteen.com or you can click on the Brave Revolution tab on the UncommonTEEN app and get signed up there!
All right, so on this week’s episode, I am doing something a little different. I have had several emails lately from you beautiful ladies asking me pretty much the same question. I thought that if several of you are emailing me about the same thing, then there are definitely a lot more of you who have the same question as well.
For those of you who are in public schools, or private schools, or even some of you who are homeschooled and are a part of a co-op or a tutorial…most of you are probably aware that the season for dances is going strong. We have middle school dances. We have the homecoming dances, the court-warming dances, winter galas, and don’t even get me started on proms and the promposals!
A lot of times, if we aren’t careful, when we have these dances coming up in the calendar…we can begin to look around and think to ourselves…
What if nobody asks me to go? Or it seems like all of my friends have a date, except for me, what should I do? Or my friends are making fun of me for not having a date, should I even go?
There are all of these fears that go through out mind…and if we’re not careful, it can make us feel like we are ugly, that we aren’t good enough, that we’re not likeable, that there must be something wrong with us.
First, that cannot be further from the truth! You are beautiful because God designed you and He doesn’t make mistakes. You are beautiful, because you have Him, the creator of the Universe on the inside of you! Second, you don’t need a guy or anyone else to know that you are more than good enough! You are incredible just the way you are.

36. Interview with Author Sara Barratt: Overcoming Apathy
There's a special announcement at the end of this episode, so make sure to listen all the way to the end!!
Join us this week as we interview 21-year old author, Sara Barratt as she talks about what apathy is and how to overcome it as a teen girl.
With so many things coming against teens today...so many distracts, it can be really easy to become indifference about your walk with God, but it doesn't have to be that way.
"With passion and authenticity, teen author Sara Barratt calls on her generation to reject apathy and embrace a daring, costly faith. Not content with safe religion that demands nothing of us, Sara shows teens how they can stop giving in to the status quo and devote themselves fully to Christ, following him no matter what their friends do or the culture around them does. She challenges them to give everything over--their comfort zones, their time, their loyalties, their pride--and discover that in losing control they are gaining the life that was meant for them all along. Love Riot is a battle cry from one teen to another to embrace a life of wholehearted commitment and relentless abandon for Christ . . . no matter the cost."

35. Walking in Integrity
What is integrity?
Albert Einstein says, “Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.”
Martin Luther King Jr. says, “The time is always right to do what is right.”
To me, integrity is:
1. Doing the right thing when nobody else is looking.
2. Doing the right thing even when it’s hard.
3. Doing the right thing even when nobody else is doing the right thing.
How are you doing with walking in integrity. I encourage you to take this little quiz...answer in your head if you've ever done this before:
1. Before making a choice you knew you shouldn’t have made, you thought, “nobody will see me. It will be okay.”
2. Before making a choice you knew you shouldn’t have made, you thought, “well, everyone else is doing it, why can’t I?”
3. Before making a choice, you knew you shouldn’t have made, you thought, “I know what I should do, but I’m afraid of what others are going to think.”
4. Before making a choice you knew you shouldn’t have made, you thought, “It’s so tempting…just this one time.”
If you answered yes to any of those questions, there is no condemnation for you! I do encourage you, though, when you are faced with the temptation to make a decision that you know you shouldn’t make, choose to make the next right decision…even when nobody is looking, even when it’s hard, even when everyone else is making the wrong decision…and if you mess up and fall into that temptation, talk to whoever you need to talk to make it right. Ask them for forgiveness. Ask God for forgiveness and then keep moving on doing your best to make the next right decision.
And know that you don’t have to do this alone. Talk to God daily and ask Him to help you be bold enough and courageous enough to make those right decisions even when it’s hard.

34. Called for More! Don't Let Fear Hold You Back from Your Purpose!
Candace Cameron Bure, Mark Wahlberg, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Chip and Joanna Gaines, Tim Tebow, Simone Biles, Lecrae, Sadie Robertson….what do they have in common that makes them the influencers that they are?
The answer…they are all people who are extraordinary at something that they do…so much so that they have made a massive influence in this world.
What makes them stand out from the crowd thought? What is it about them that makes them so remarkable? Well, for each of them, it’s different. Candace Cameron Bure is known for her acting skills, Carrie Underwood is known for her singing, Chip and Joanna Gaines are known for fixing up houses, Simone Biles is known for her gymnastics talents.
But what is it about them that makes them so exceptional that you don’t have? The answer…nothing!
You were created by God to be an influencer that makes a major impact in this world as well. Now, am I telling you that you are going to be the next actress, or next singer, or next Olympic gymnast…for some of you maybe…but not for most of you…and that’s okay! God created you with unique gifts and talents, that only you have, in order to make an impact on this world like no one else! Something that when someone sees you walking in your purpose, they say, “She was made for that! No one else can do that quite like her!”
You were designed to make an impact in this world like nobody else can! You have a specific purpose for your life that nobody else can fulfill like you can.
Don't let fear hold you back from stepping into your God-given purpose!

33. Getting Over Shame & Guilt for Good!
When thinking of someone who had a reason to feel shame and guilt, I think back to the story of King David in 2nd Samuel 11. King David had slipped so far down into sin and he didn’t even realize how far he had gone. He cheated on another man’s wife, got her pregnant, tried to cover it up and then had some of his best warriors fighting in his army murdered in the process.
When King David's sins were brought out to the light, could you even imagine how hopeless David felt on the inside? David had a lot of shame, guilt and even depression that he had to fight.
The problem with sin is that it becomes a trap that keeps us from experiencing the true freedom of God.
However, do you know the first thing that David did when his sin was brought to the light? The first thing he did was go to God and repent. He chose to turn from his sin and turn toward God and ask him for forgiveness. From that moment on, the power of sin was broken on David’s life and the power of shame and guilt began to weaken.
Receiving God's forgiveness weakens the power that shame and guilt have on you. To find out more listen in to this week's episode on how to get rid of guilt and shame for good!

32. Jamie's Story: How God Transformed My Life & Can Do the Same for You!
Recently, at UncommonTEEN, we have received several emails from teen girls talking about the shame and the guilt that you are feeling for past mistakes, and I wanted to share my story with you to let you to know that I have been right there with you. I get it. I held on to so much shame and so much guilt over the years. The only one who can take away that shame and that guilt once for all is God, but we have to be willing to give it to Him and we have to be willing to receive His forgiveness.
If you have not subscribed to the UncommonTEEN Podcast, do so now, because next week, we are going to talk all about how to get rid of the shame and the guilt for good. Even if you aren’t dealing with shame and guilt yourself, this will be a great episode that you can use to help others who are.
