Intervention Interrupted: A Sister's Determination and a Family's Transformation

Jaqueline contacted me in December 2023 to discuss the possibility of an intervention for one of her siblings who was struggling with addiction. Everything was on track, but Jaqueline's father had other ideas. The conversations Jaqueline's family had in preparation for the intervention and the boundaries that were consequentially set, were key in setting her family and sibling on a course for recovery.

Episode 8 - Family Recovery Collective

In this episode, I interview Neely Carlton Lyons and therapist Erin McNamee, cofounders of Family Recovery Collective, a community that offers information and resources for families with a loved one impacted by addiction. Erin is a Doctorate level, Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been in clinical practice in the state of Florida since 2006. Neely works with families to develop strategies for helping their loved ones. She also helps families recover. She offers consultation, individual and group workshops, coaching, and speaks at conferences. Both Erin and Neely are passionate about their work because of how their own families have been impacted by addiction.

Episode 7 - From Ground Zero Survivor to Recovery Coach - David Mahler

David Mahler is a Wall Street broker with over 30 years' experience. He was in Building 1 during the 911 attack on the World Trade Center. He and colleagues, having experienced the World Trade Center bombing years earlier, immediately left their offices after the first plane hit. Dave survived the attack and continued his career. He goes on in this interview to describe his experience in coming to know Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior and his experience with his daughter who battled addiction for years. Dave has been volunteering in recovery ministry with his church for years and is now a recovery coach for men.

In today's episode, I interview Dr. Fred Moss. Dr. Fred Moss, a distinguished graduate of Northwestern University Medical School, stands as a stalwart figure in the field of psychiatry, boasting a career that spans nearly four decades. His journey, marked by an unwavering commitment to redefine the landscape of mental health, has led him to become a trailblazer in advocating for a more human-centered approach to healing. In 2006, Dr. Fred pioneered a new methodology, working closely with a select group of patients who sought an alternative path to healing. Remarkably, these individuals not only improved but, in some cases, saw their diagnoses completely vanish. This success ignited a series of questions surrounding the very definitions of mental illness and mental health, laying the foundation for Dr. Fred's evolving methodology. In today's episode we discuss addiction, ADHD, and parenting roles. We also dive into the use of pharmaceuticals in the treatment of what may seem to be behavioral irregularities.

In this episode, I interview Kim Humphrey, President of PAL - Parents of Addicted Loved Ones. PAL is a peer support group for parents with a child battling addiction. Kim shares the story of his two sons who have both battled addiction. Kim explains how PAL helped his family and how it can help yours. PAL is designed with parents in mind, but in-person and online groups are available for any family member or friend 18 or older with a loved one battling addiction. PAL is a great resource for families and friends. I highly recommend it.
