Dune: Part Two
This week, Paul and Amy dig into the 2024 release Dune: Part Two, starring Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler and Zendaya. Paul reveals his disappointment with the movie while Amy stands up for the brilliance of the storytelling, and then the two dig into why Frank Herbert wrote Dune as a reaction to Lawrence of Arabia. Plus, Amy reveals questions omitted from her NYT interview with Dune director Denis Villeneuve about the Dune movies. Hint: It involves sex and what the sandworms poop out.

I appreciate the research Nicholson shared about the movie. I would never have known any of that if I hadn’t listened to the podcast which is a big plus for me. I really enjoy learning to appreciate movies more. It really doesn’t matter if the critic likes them or not.
Paul is out of his lane.
I listened to “Point Break” and then “Carrie”. I like Amy very much but I just can’t stomach Paul. The platitudes are too much for me and he just comes off as adding garnish rather than substance. Had to unfollow bc of this.
It’s good
I like unspooled even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of Paul scheer when he joined. The problem with the podcast though is that they are kind of both these contrarians in different directions and so often it doesn’t feel like they get into what’s actually good or flawed about a lot of the movies they cover
