In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah reissue an enlightening conversation with Naturopathic doctor and women’s hormone specialist, Dr Lara Briden, while they take a little break over the holidays.  Author of ‘Period Repair Manual’ and ‘Hormone Repair Manual’, Dr Briden is a women’s health activist, and passionate about helping women feel empowered when it comes to their bodies.  In this interview, we dive deep into a discussion about the contraceptive pill. Whilst being revolutionary for women when it first came out, Dr Briden shares up-to-date knowledge on the potential implications. We also discuss the pros and cons of various contraceptive options, perimenopause, and how menopause is not the big bad wolf that it is often made out to be.  You can learn more about Dr Lara Briden, read her blog and purchase her books at www.larabriden.com. REISSUE: Healing trauma with Matt Brown

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah reissue a deeply moving conversation from the very beginning of the podcast with Matt Brown, while they take a little break over the holidays.  Taimalelagi Mataio Faafetai (Matt) Brown is a New Zealand born Samoan author of the bestselling book, She is Not Your Rehab. He is a survivor of family violence and childhood sexual abuse and originally started his domestic violence advocacy work by sharing his story with the men who frequented his busy barbershops as a way to foster vulnerability, healing, and connection. Matt has been a barber, hair artist, and is the former owner of the successful barbershop and men’s space, ‘My Fathers Barber’, in Christchurch. He has now turned his full focus towards his work to eradicate domestic violence in Aotearoa alongside his wife, Sarah Brown. Together they are co-founders of a global anti-violence movement to break the cycle of abuse and intergenerational trauma.  Matty and Hannah talk about Matt’s work to help men face their pasts, embrace vulnerability and find healing to transform their lives.  Follow Matt and Sarah’s work on Instagram at @sheisnotyourrehab and visit https://www.sheisnotyourrehab.com/. The app Matt talks about in the episode, innerBoy, is now available free to download across New Zealand and Australia. Follow Sarah Brown on Instagram @sarahclarebrown and the sister account @iamnotyourrehab for the next step of this global anti-violence movement. Surrendering to imperfection

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah go off-script and ditch the plan for the episode to talk about what’s really on their minds — the beautiful chaos of life served with a side of emotional vulnerability and an unavoidable sprinkle of self-care. Hannah shares she’s losing her battle with COVID, operating with mashed potato for a brain and finding no choice but to surrender to the slow lane. Matty opens up about a parenting fail that morning that left her feeling particularly low. They talk about the art of repair after rupture and why it’s not always on your time schedule. There’s chat about the pressures of productivity, how to give yourself grace, and how to give yourself permission to lie in the sun with a good book (even if your bathroom remains borderline condemned while you do it). Untidy is celebrating some big wins: a Gold for Best Family Podcast and Silver for Best Branded Podcast at the NZ Podcast Awards! A massive thank you to all of you for your love and support—it means the world to us. Grab your ice cream (you’ll understand why!) and listen in for a good, slightly unhinged kōrero about life’s less-than-perfect moments. Bralessness, caravan cravings, and toilet cubicle psychology

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah discuss Matilda’s chaotic trip to the public pool. As if swimming in the lukewarm piss of child minestrone soup wasn’t enough, Matty discovers she’s inadvertently decided to become bold and braless.  Hannah’s absolutely not resisting her cravings to own a vintage caravan and grimly realises she’s been asking prospective dates for the bare minimum, which they’re still unable to deliver.  The girls discuss toilet cubicle psychology, irrational fears, and why, under the right circumstances, you’re all for strangers’ hands tickling your ankles. The mystery of The Bermuda Triangle is conclusively solved! (Sort of.) And, Matilda stays wild and free by preparing her body for the Coldplay concert six weeks advance.  Episode we mention:Perimenopause Handbook with Emily Rose Yates If you enjoy this episode of Untidy, please support the show by subscribing in your podcast app and tapping the ‘+ follow’ button. Creating critical thinkers with Kate Whitaker

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah are joined by Kate Whitaker, Senior Advisor at Te Mana Whakaatu Classification Office for New Zealand and an expert in education and outreach. She has over a decade of classroom teaching and facilitation experience under her belt and is driven to enhance the lives of New Zealanders through practical resources for whānau and teachers, helping them to have open kōrero about challenging topics like harmful media and pornography. Kate’s work focuses on empowering youth, caregivers, and educators to build critical media literacy skills and break down the stigma surrounding these conversations. She shares actionable strategies to help parents feel equipped to guide their children through today’s media landscape, encouraging resilience and critical thinking rather than fear of what can feel like a daunting prospect in this modern era of parenting.  This episode delves into the importance of moving away from ‘moral panic’ and toward proactive, meaningful discussions and teaching self-management skills to tamariki and rangatahi youth. Kate highlights the tools available to New Zealanders for addressing these issues with confidence, offering insights into the role we all play in creating a safer, more understanding environment for young people.
