Lt Colonel Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir was in the Pakistani Army since 1969, but in 1971 upon hearing of atrocities committed by the Pakistan Army in East Pakistan, he fled the country and reached India.     1100 Indian Soldiers were killed during Operation Pawan in which Indian Peacekeeping Forces were sent to Sri Lanka in 1987. Major PS Ganapathi of the 8th battalion of the MAHAR Regiment was also deployed on this mission. He was executing an operation that was supposed to last twelve hours but continued relentlessly for seventy-two hours. For three days, Major Ganapathi and his team were fighting against heavy firing by the LTTE. 11 members of his team were killed during these three days. Colonel Ganapathi narrates shocking incidents and makes one wonder why Operation Pawan is not talked about like we talk about Kargil.     17 bullets entered his body, not one wounded his spirit to fight. On July 4, 1999, the regiment -18 Grenadiers was tasked to capture Tiger Hill. 19-year-old Bulandshahar boy - Yogender Singh Yadav accomplished the mission and survived an enemy attack to become the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration.
