    Communication Strategies from a Policeman Realtor.

    In this podcast episode, we participate in a conversation with Bruce Lesser. Bruce is simultaneously a 45-year volunteer policeman in the San Francisco east bay area, a very successful Realtor, and a code enforcement officer with a large California public utility. Bruce shares with us his story of how a medical condition prevented him from pursuing his dream job as a police officer, to where his 4+ decades of work as a volunteer policeman fueled a highly successful career in real estate, and the varying communication and public speaking strategies he has employed in each of his careers. Bruce started his volunteer police career while he was still in college, fully intending on having a long career as a policeman. Upon graduation from college, a medical condition was discovered that prevented him from that pursuing that career, but allowed him to continue his work as a volunteer policeman, something he continues to do 45 years later. The silver lining in this outcome is that it opened up a completely different career to Bruce in selling residential real estate. What Bruce didn’t realize is that his decades of work in the police would serve to fuel the majority of his real estate business. Bruce discusses the creative communication approaches he has taken in his real estate business which now features his daughter and their dog as a part of the Dad/Daughter Team. Bruce has also worked police undercover in the past, and is now a utility code enforcement officer which also presents unique communication challenges in dealing with the public. Bruce has been married for over 40 years, has run for public office, and is a staple of his community.     The hidden art of software presentations.

    In this podcast we review some of the often overlooked techniques of presenting software to a new audience. Software presenters (Sales Engineers, Salespeople) often get so comfortable with their applications that they forget what it was like to see the application for the first time. While the presenter can quickly get to maximum speed with their application, it is critical that they remember that their audience is seeing the product for the first time and can easily get confused if they are not given the opportunity to warm up to how the application operates. We also review how important it is for software presenters to learn their technology inside and out to properly serve their sales organizations and their customers. Presenters must have a deep curiosity for their product, to learn all the in’s and out’s of the application so that they can address as many needs of the customer as possible, and even add some easter eggs to the presentation. Too often software presenters rest on their laurels and only learn the center of the application’s bell-curve, foregoing opportunities to be found by exploring the edges.
