Misleading Podcast With Frequent False Advertising

I like Wade Keller and his podcast. I understand the business model and that he needs to make a living. This isn’t meant to be malicious, but I’m thinking at a point it may be best that Wade moved entirely over to a paywall model.

I have put on this podcast 4 times in the last month and the “Wade Keller post show” doesn’t feature Wade Keller. It’s becoming a trend as Heydorn takes over. And he’s fine - but don’t false advertise your show. Wade is smart - he named it after himself because he is the Torch. Next to Meltzer, Keller is as reputable and renowned as they come in pro wrestling journalism. And look - I get it. Doing these shows multiple times a week is a lot. Things come up, people get busy. But, if you’re going to pivot to other contributors hosting more regularly, change the name of the show. I come here to listen to Wade, yet Heydorn is here telling me Wade is doing a VIP hotline instead of his post-show podcast. He can run his business any way he wishes, but it’s starting to feel sleazy.

When it comes to ads - there’s a lot. Far too many. But again - you can skip ads 30 seconds on most podcasts a few times and be right back in it. Not here. The start of the show is routinely 5 minutes of ads before we even hear analysis begin. You skip past commercials, put your phone down, and have to pick it back up again every 6-8 minutes for more ads. It becomes unskippable or a huge effort to do so, which I’m sure is part of his plan. And look - it’s a problem. Most reviews say so. Wade seems fo care about his image and reputation, as he and we all should. But it’s clear he takes no joy in putting out free work. Don’t crater the product and your reputation to put this show out there if that’s not where the money is. Why not just post the flagship once a week with ads and put the rest behind a paywall? I know someone reading this thinks I’m crazy for suggesting this, but between the irritating amount of ads to which the likes I’ve never seen AND Wade frequently making backhanded comments about the “free loaders” on the free feeds, it makes me sour on him greatly.

But it is what it is. For a show that so frequently comes down on Raw for false advertising, this show sure follows suit. When Wade dives in and analyzes, he’s one of the best out there. But we get so little of it. Callers are very indicative of the WWE audience - old and crotchety. One caller tuned in to discuss AEW’s lacking women’s division, citing when his daughter “knew something was off” watching Nyla Rose, implying “she knew it was unfair.” TLDR, a listener and caller is being openly transphobic on air and then somehow wonders how his daughter is also transphobic. And Wade just sat there without calling this person out. There’s just lots of old, out of touch callers that make this show feel like it never left the 80’s. Do 20-30 something’s ever call in? I’d love to know his demos, because listening to this show really makes it sit with me just how old Raw’a audience is. And for someone as progressive as Wade claims to be (although he frequently retweets Palmer Report, a fake news conspirator on the left - which is shocking for someone who does such good homework in the wrestling industry), he doesn’t try to bring in newer perspectives or at least call out problematic behavior of his callers.

I hope Wade sees this - not because I’m attacking him, but because this show is more and more poorly reviewed. I’m not one to complain - I was a subscriber at one point (before I was laid off in 2020 due to COVID), but I’m getting tired of the Wade Keller show not having Wade - at least without explanation beyond not wanting to come down and speak to the “freeloaders.” Just make it all paid. ThTs fine - lots of shows do it. But ads are frivolous, callers are old, and the wresting product is so poor right now that it’s not a must see show to go out of your way to see Wade analyze it.

Doesn't Consider Listener's Head Exploding

I try to get through this show for AEW opinions, considering there's not a lot of serious, digestable options for wrestling reviews.

Wade, you shatter that not even within the first five minutes of your show with three pretentious, arrogant nitpicks; the last of them being about the semantics of "pro-wrestling" and why hyphenating it confuses readers.

GET THE ENORMOUS STICK REMOVED FROM YOUR RECTUM, PLEASE?!

Better than watching Raw

Wade and crew do a great job analyzing each show. Part of the fun of it is finding out if you agree or disagree with them. They do a good job of presenting different perspectives with the best being the onsite corespondents. I’d rather listen to the Raw post-show than actually watch Raw. Those who have an issue with the ads should probably just tap the fast forward button. Or you could Go VIP and show some support to content creators.
