We Like Comics Because They Have no Bones

I really like this poscast!

Mike and Joe offer accessible commentary on various comic-related topics, providing interesting background and behind-the-scenes information relevant to the creative works they later assess and review. Aiming to showcase works from across the industry, the co-hosts cover comic books as well as films, TV, video games and other mediums spotlighting characters with comic origins. Content comes from a range of publishers, from the big two (Marvel and DC) to indie publishers of mixed renown. Because each episode covers a new topic, any episode can be a jumping point for new listeners! Plus, since episode titles display the name of the creative work up for review, listeners can opt in and out of episodes depending on what catches their interest, skipping a discussion about a Marvel movie in favor of jumping in at the next indie-comic episode, for example. I greatly appreciate how Mike and Joe connect the material they cover to their own lives, opening up to listeners and helping fans like me appreciate the stories even more because of the impact I know they have had on these two easygoing, friendly hosts. Each episode is filled with quips and humor, too, in addition to thought-provoking analyses that both comic newbies and veterans alike can enjoy. Vocally, the two speak very well and have a balanced dynamic, taking turns being the primary speaker without talking over each other, which I can appreciate. I could go on, but this review has gone long enough. Just know that after listening to hundreds of hours’ worth of podcasts per year that I’m not giving Mike and Joe five stars (or should I say bananas?) for no reason! TL;DR—This podcast covers a BUNCH of comic-related topics, offering fun and food-for-thought all in one!

As a girl who has read some comics, but not the broad range that the hosts have, I really enjoy experiencing new stories I may not have heard of or reached for through this podcast. I’m excited to see where this podcast goes, and love hearing the hosts’ dynamic. Five bananas for sure!

I admit to not knowing much about comics. This podcast is great even if you’re a newbie like me! I’m learning that there is so much more to comics than just “cartoon” characters on paper. Thanks guys for opening my eyes to a new-to-me medium of storytelling. I look forward to diving into comics and hearing more of your podcast as I progress in this comic book journey.
