This episode of Welcome To The Party Pal celebrates the second half of the fourth season of Ozark, the crime drama television series created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams for Netflix. The series stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty and Wendy Byrde, a married couple who relocate their family to the Lake of the Ozarks for money laundering. Bateman also serves as a director and executive producer for the series. In June 2020, the series was renewed for a fourth and final season, which consisted of fourteen episodes split into two parts; the first part was released on January 21, 2022, and the second part, which is the focus of this episode, on April 29, 2022. Throughout this podcast host Michael Shields, with the help of artist and film and television enthusiast Lindsay Paul Hanners, explore the themes present in Ozark, specifically focussing in on how the compelling series acted as a critique of both the American Dream and of late-stage Capitalism. They discuss a surprise hip-hop related cameo, a bold last stand for one of the series' most beloved characters, what the final surprise moment says about the series in aggregate, and a whole lot more.
