As someone who came up in the "Young, Restless, and Reformed" movement, I wholeheartedly bought into the idea that conservative political thought was the only correct ideology for a true Christian. The reformed teachers I deeply respected heavily persuaded me that this was the biblical mandate for my faith and civic engagement. However, over the past several years, and especially during the first Trump term, I found myself increasingly vocal about issues of injustice, particularly concerning police brutality against Black people. This past political cycle, the hypocrisy I witnessed firsthand among "MAGA Christians" and their blatant disregard for Scripture became impossible to reconcile. After over 12 years, I made the difficult decision to leave my church, finding myself ideologically isolated and embarking on a season of deconstruction. In this challenging time of re-evaluating my core beliefs and seeking to rebuild my faith, The Progressive Christians Podcast has been an absolute godsend. This show provides invaluable guidance as I strive to reconstruct my understanding of Christianity around the actual person and teachings of Jesus, and what it truly means to be a faithful follower in modern-day America. The hosts fearlessly confront issues that many within my former circles avoided or even championed, particularly the dangerous ideology of Christian Nationalism. They expose it for the heresy and false gospel that it truly is, offering a refreshing and much-needed perspective rooted in compassion, justice, and the radical love of Christ. Like so many others, I’ve been reevaluating/deconstructing/reconstructing my faith in light of the 2024 election. These people get it! They give honest, raw, intelligent, and thoughtful insight not only into pop culture and politics through a Christian lens but also into the policies and purpose of the Church as a whole. Every episode makes me think. Every episode makes me want to dive deeper into my faith, a feeling I had lost for quite some time. I’m so incredibly grateful for this group of people!

I’m so glad I found this podcast! I was raised Catholic in a very orthodox household and left the church 14 years ago. But this election left me completely baffled, almost gaslit by the contrast between what I remember from my religious upbringing and what’s happening now. I find myself needing validation that I’m actually sane and correct in my belief that the new administration is not what they claim to be. I’ve always considered myself a spiritual person, and this podcast is helping me reconnect with what I know deep down is right. Half of my family voted for Trump, even though I have siblings who identify as queer and I myself am disabled. I’ve found comfort in your podcast as I work through the grace I want to give my family, who claim to be Christian but actively voted for hate.
