One episode and I fell in love with Hornet Nation. Because this program has got it all: Firstly it’s a fictitious “superhero/supervillain comedy, set in a fictional radio station playing REAL great rock music (mostly from those halcyon 1970’s). Listening to Dr Hornet is hypnotic: I honestly don’t know if it’s scripted or all improv, but whichever the case, it’s a brilliant talent holding a captive audience by voice alone. His list of “the music I’ll never play” was hilarious (ep 1) - especially when the listeners call in with their reactions! Everything feels SO REAL. I could almost believe that there’s an ex-supervillain completely changing Classic Rock to “Johnny Fever” standards - No “Hits” / Anti-Corporate “same groups/same song” and the dreadful “Getting The Led Out” (*gag*) for DriveTime At 5... And y’know ... I have a strange feeling that if Classic Rock radio stations around the country had STOOD UP/fought back with everything they had against their corrupt corporate buy-up & disassembly of our beloved rebellious rock radio, then maybe... JUST POSSIBLY... in an alternative reality... not everything would be ruined, not everything would be profit-motivated, bought up by the establishment and then either traded, or picked apart before having it intentionally ruined so as to make a tidy profit off of its bankruptcy. Plus we might all have free healthcare and a $15 minimum wage.

One of the most inventive and inspired improv comedy podcasts I’ve ever heard. Think “This is Spinal Tap” mixed with “WKRP in Cincinnati” and set in the DC Comics Universe. Dr Hornet’s misadventures encapsulates the normal struggles and frustrations we all face in life but on a much grander and funnier scale. The show also features a cast of memorable recurring characters including Glen the classic rock enthusiast, Randy the crank caller, and fellow super villain The Philanthropist. Also I have been introduced to many unheard tracks from Classic Rock’s finest while following this show. Highly recommended!
