    349. The Gospel Is Not About Being Naughty or Nice

    Welcome back to the kitchen table. As the Christmas season approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in lists and expectations—who’s been good, what gifts to give, how to make everything perfect.  We celebrate Christmas because we belong to Jesus. The gospel isn’t about earning or achieving—it’s about grace. At Christmas, there’s no performance checklist, no need to prove yourself. You’re loved simply because you’re His. As parents, it’s easy to slip into performance-based parenting, even during the holidays. We start layering behavior with conditions: "If you’re good, you’ll get this." But that’s not the message of Christmas. The gifts under the tree? They’re not there because of behavior. They’re there because we love our kids. It’s our way of saying, “You’re mine, and I love you.” This Christmas, let’s redirect our children’s hearts to the true gift—Jesus.     346. How to Have a Wonderful Christmas When You Feel Overwhelmed and Anxious

    Welcome back to the kitchen table. The week before Christmas always seems to carry so much weight. It’s a season of joy, traditions, and celebration, yet it’s also a season where overwhelm and anxiety can creep in. How do we fight against the lies that whisper we’re falling short? How do we realign our hearts with Jesus when we feel like we’ve lost our way? The pressure to create the perfect Christmas can creep  in, and anxiety whispers, “Am I even doing this well?” Here’s the truth: The gospel does not demand perfection or performance. Colossians 3:1-4 reminds us to set our hearts on things above, where Christ is. Christmas isn’t about a perfect checklist or flawless traditions. It’s about Jesus. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, pause for a moment. Take a deep breath. Let go of the impossible standards and remember: Jesus doesn’t ask for perfection.
