How God’s Story Shapes Ours with JT English and Kyle Worley

Today, we get to hear from JT English and Kyle Worley about seeing our whole lives through the lens of Scripture and how that affects our spiritual formation over time. In this conversation, we discuss what it looks like to live as God’s people in God’s presence and to reflect God’s purposes in God’s place. FULL SHOW NOTES journeywomen.org/episode/gods-story-shapes-ours DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Are you able to explain the story of the Bible? If not, what could you do to spend some time learning how to articulate the structure and big picture of the story of Scripture? What is a false story you believe you’ve been living in?  How might you use the story of the Bible in evangelism this week? How can thinking about the end of the story—that one day Jesus will wipe away all our tears and sickness and suffering will be no more—change how you live today? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode? The Love of God with Quina Aragon

In this conversation with Quina Aragon we trace God’s faithfulness and steadfast love to her through some of the darkest points of her life. As we talk about the love of God, we know you will come away encouraged by how God has promised to hold you fast in his love in your own seasons of darkness and difficulty. FULL SHOW NOTES journeywomen.org/episodes/the-love-of-god DISCUSSION QUESTIONS As you have walked through difficult seasons, have you felt able to bring your grief and sorrow honestly before the Lord? Why or why not? Are there current areas of hurt in your life that you might bring before God in honest lament, like Quina talks about in this episode? Perhaps say or write a prayer of lament to God right now. Write or share about a time where you most deeply felt God’s love. What are some passages of Scripture that help you see most clearly the love of God? Consider memorizing one of those passages this week. What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode? Getting Started with Discipleship with Courtney Doctor

The Lord is at work in discipleship relationships. In this episode, Hunter and Courtney Doctor close out their conversations about discipleship—they encourage us to know what is good, to teach what is good, and to watch the Lord transform us through these relationships. This episode will encourage you to persevere in discipleship and if you aren’t discipling yet, to start simply and simply start. FULL SHOW NOTES DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What is one thing you believe has preventing you from engaging in discipleship either now or in the past? Are there any specific women (older or younger) who come to mind who would be a good fit for you to ask about a discipleship relationship? What is one way you could become more involved in your local church, specifically to be around older-than-you and younger-than-you women? Make a list of questions that have served you well over the years. Try to keep those in mind to press deeper into conversations with other women. “Tell me more” is a great example.  What’s one way you can feast more on God’s Word today in order to feed another woman at a later time? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode? What Discipleship Isn't with Courtney Doctor

When we talk about discipleship, it’s important to know what it is and what it is NOT. Discipleship is not merely meeting at a coffee shop, or merely theological conversation, or merely good advice. With encouragement and conviction, Hunter and Courtney Doctor spend this episode dispelling myths we believe about discipleship—and there are some that might surprise you!  FULL SHOW NOTES DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Have you learned from mentors in the past when you’ve gotten to see them in real-life contexts? Does it offer you encouragement when you struggle in similar ways? In what ways have the “inconvenient conveniences” of discipleship impacted your joy and your growth? Who are some women or spiritual mothers in your local church who you learn from, even if you are not formally meeting in a discipleship relationship? How does it free us to disciple or ask to be discipled knowing that is doesn’t have to be a “bestie” relationship forever? What is the Spirit prompting you to do when you think about how discipleship is not optional? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode? Coming Alongside Women in Hard Places with Amy Gower

“Discipleship in a fallen world is discipleship in a hard place.” This is how Amy Gower approaches discipleship as she ministers to women who have recently been rescued from human trafficking and addiction situations. Join Amy and Hunter as they discuss what it looks like to root yourself in God’s Word while walking through the open door of ministry in difficult places.  FULL SHOW NOTES DISCUSSION QUESTIONS How does the gospel shape how you approach discipling people in difficult situations? What can we glean from Jesus Christ’s life and ministry when preparing ourselves for the good work the Lord has set before us? How might modeling you prayer life after Jesus’ affect how you go about discipleship? What is one open door for ministry that the Lord has for you right now? How might you prepare right now for this good work? How can developing a robust theology of suffering (rooted in God’s Word) help you in discipleship contexts while also keeping in mind the other person’s greatest need in that moment? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode? Discipling the Next Generation with Adam & Chelsea Griffin

Parents are not the only ones called to disciple children! In this episode, Hunter talks with Adam and Chelsea Griffin about discipling the next generation—they talk about the biblical basis for it, offer encouragement to parents and church families, and also get into practical ideas to help the next generation of believers grow in their love for the Lord.  FULL SHOW NOTES DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Why is discipling the next generation important? How can the church as a whole come alongside families to help disciple children? What are some specific areas in which you’d like to grow when it comes to discipling the next generation? If you are a parent, how does remembering the gospel for yourself affect how you interact with your children, especially in moments of discipline and instruction? Discipleship in Every Season with Melissa Kruger

Discipleship looks different in different seasons. We don’t always have the same capacity, schedule, or set of circumstances as our seasons of life shift and change. In this episode, Hunter talks with Courtney Doctor and Melissa Kruger about the practical elements of discipleship and pointing others to Christ in all of life. We’d love to hear your discipleship stories! If you have a good discipleship story to share, please record a 30-to-60-second voice memo and send it to info@journeywomen.org. FULL SHOW NOTES DISCUSSION QUESTIONS What are some opportunities you have in your current season to invite a younger or older woman into your home? (After kids’ bedtime, lunch after church, etc.) How can you be intentional to make your conversations with Christians look different from conversations in the world? Before you enter a group or one-on-one discussion, what are some specific questions you can take time to think through beforehand? What are some healthy expectations for discipling? What might you do or implement based on what you learned in this week’s episode?
