Where in the World are those Utah Propositions? Podcast Alliance for a Better Utah

One of the biggest victories last year was the passage of the three propositions--something we’re still celebrating--although the Legislature has sure expressed their displeasure with Utahns taking things into their own hands! (Remember that infamous comment from Senator Christensen, “Am I smarter than the voters? At least I read the bill”?)
So now what? Where are the propositions? What’s the status of medical cannabis and Medicaid expansion? What’s happened with fair redistricting? How did Utah get ballot initiatives in the first place?
Join us starting November 6, 2019 for a three part podcast series all about the 2018 ballot initiatives produced and hosted by J.P. Romney in conjunction with the Alliance for a Better Utah.

Record breaking victories of the Will of the People in 2018
I implore you to listen to this thought-provoking explanation of the process of direct democracy in Utah. Part one is a fascinating historical perspective showing that there are times when Utah leaps out as truly progressive. Part two is an overview of the tremendous effort that went into qualifying for, and the surprising victories, which ended with three of three Propositions on the ballot being approved by voters. Part three is my favorite, with a strong reminder to revel in our victory. WE WON! Has it resulted in what we wanted as volunteers, petition signers and voters? No. But we learned a lot about how elected ‘representatives’ work and work against us. It clearly demonstrated the real Power of the People as long as we follow through and VOTE! We have to hold the obstructionist legislators accountable and vote them out of office. If they don’t listen to the Will of the People, they have to go! Identify your State Senator and Representative. Look at how they voted. Let them know what you expect of them when the session opens at the end of January. Decide who you will vote out of office in 2020, who you can protect to stay there and work like hell to get everyone you know (and people you don’t know) to understand the issues and vote in their own best interest. Cleanse our state of apathy by explaining the importance of being involved. Recruit candidates, run for office, participate in the primaries and become a delegate to actually choose who shows up on the ballot. We cannot passively let this bulldozing of what we are telling our legislators appear OK. They listen or they leave.
