Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: Chpt. 49 - Public Access Read-a-Long

Well, well, well. Guess who got discovered. Mmhm. And guess who continues to be overly optimistic? You got it. And guess who is kind of a classist jerk to their domestic workers? BINGO. You know what, maybe just sit this chapter out. You already know what's up.

Romantasy Fest Panel with Megan Mackie, Samara Breger, Melanie Moschella, Tamara Jerée

Romantasy Fest Panel with Megan Mackie, Samara Breger, Melanie Moschella, Tamara Jerée

We had a blast talking with Megan Mackie, Samara Breger, Melanie Moschella, Tamara Jerée at the first ever Romantasy Fest at Otherworld Theatre. We dished about Romantasy history both public and personal, influences, Romantasy vs. supernatural, comparing fantasy and romance, and the unique process of authoring a romance novel.
A note on sound - we recorded the panel using one mic, so the sound isn't what you're used to with our show. It is worth the listen, though!

After the Bennett receive a really mean letter from their current cousin/former paramour, their dear father returns home to say he’s taking responsibility for his family. Papa then goes on to earn that letter and top spot as Bad Dad on the Whoa!mance bookshelf.
We also talk about conservative faced men.

170: BLOOD PRAXIS - Bride by Ali Hazelwood

170: BLOOD PRAXIS - Bride by Ali Hazelwood

You're going to want to double KNOT your Easter Bonnet for this one - because BRIDE by ALI HAZELWOOD is likely to blow it clean off.
Vampyre, Misery, enters an arranged marriage with Alpha Werewolf, Lowe to protect a tentative truce between their cultures. And then...well, guess. We bet you can guess what happens next. Go ahead. What do you think? C'mon. Don't be shy. We know why you're here. We're right here with ya. Yeah. That's right. Omegaverse-style canid sex.
Why do we seek out the bestial in our most human, romantic stories? When does Virginity stop being a social issue and become a personal one? What kind of personal aircraft will be acceptable when the revolution comes?

Conflict with Conversation

How in the world can two people disagree yet still work together?
Listen up here.
The humor helps - but it comes down to respect. Each has a stance based on what they have read and researched but also experienced.
And ground rules. Neither is working to trick, undermine or outdo the other.

Instead - it comes down to being about ME! The Listener! And I love that. Humor, perspective, information, the aghast at the bonkers… all of it. And it’s not just a yes-fest. It’s a chance to consider multiple interpretations and see - yes romance novels are an important window into our humanity.

I’ll be back for more… and even more.

Loving the backlog!

Been listening to the podcast’s backlog and enjoying the insights! I appreciate that the hosts are not publishing industry insiders and can therefore be a little more critical of what they read. Wish there was a bit more diversity in the books selected. One star removed for the hosts continuing the proud Midwestern tradition of being completely unable to pronounce anything right. Mispronouncing “Derbyshire” even after seeing multiple Pride & Prejudice adaptations! Not to mention an old episode in which the hosts quip about how white people can pronounce “Eyre” but not “Hassan”. (Reader, they went on to mispronounce Hassan.)

Vampire vs Brain in a Robot Body & other controversies

While I’d fight to the non-death that being immortal as a vampire is better than being a brain in a robot body, because I dig the whole embodied thing, I otherwise enjoy the hosts playful yet earnest discussions of romance. I was getting crispy from all the grim news, and finding then digging into the backlist of Learning the Tropes has given me much needed & appreciated joyful solace.
