Episode 52 | HBO's The Way Down, Gwen Shamblin, and Christian Diet Culture

Episode 52 | HBO's The Way Down, Gwen Shamblin, and Christian Diet Culture

The Woman Beings review and discuss "The Way Down," an HBO Max docuseries focused on cult leader Gwen Shamblin and the Christian weight loss program that brought her to prominence. The three-part docuseries covers Shamblin's rise in career that led her to start Remnant Fellowship, a controversial church in Brentwood, Tennessee. The church and its tight-knit community are known for their weight-loss workshops, peppy attitudes, and elaborate events, but the series reveals a dark underbelly of abuse and exploitation.

Episode 51 | Menstruation Matters, Period.

Episode 51 | Menstruation Matters, Period.

It's that time of the month when Aunt Flow drops by for a visit, it's shark week, it's the crimson tide, it's your period. The Woman Beings discuss the most famous phase of your beloved cycle (like the John Lennon of the Beatles): menstruation. Periods are undoubtedly America's least favorite topic, next to how bad bacon really is for you and California's homeless problem. Truth be told, there's no need to be afraid of periods, other than the fact that it involves copious amounts of blood, painful cramping, and monster-like tendencies. Periods affect almost all women, some men, and some people in between, a huge percentage of the population, yet society continues on from day to day as if it's a huge secret. Not today, Satan. This episode is here to talk about periods, loud and proud. So, get your period underwear on, grab a heating pad, and snuggle up for a real kick in the uterus.

Episode 50 | All Our Thoughts on Makeup in One Episode

Episode 50 | All Our Thoughts on Makeup in One Episode

Don't you think that red lipstick is a bit too... adult? That eyeliner gives you raccoon eyes. Aren't you a little young to be wearing makeup? I think girls are pretty without it.  You should wear it more often! Everyone has different views of makeup, what it represents, who ought to wear it, and where it belongs. The Woman Beings sit down to discuss experiences with makeup growing up, and how it shows up differently in adulthood.

Episode 48 | The Online Dating Episode: Hinge Stories

Episode 48 | The Online Dating Episode: Hinge Stories

As if dating in general wasn't hard enough, online dating comes with its own set of pre-conceptions and stigmas, and for many, it can be daunting. In this week's episode, Emma spills all the tea about navigating the dating world using Hinge, and what it's like to 'put yourself out there' in today's society. She talks about her insecurities, failures and triumphs, and what it's like for a woman to self-advocate in 2021. This episode is for all the single ladies (and the men too), and anyone who is thinking about getting back into the game.

Episode 47 | Not Your Mom's Book Club: Pure by Linda Kay Klein

Episode 47 | Not Your Mom's Book Club: Pure by Linda Kay Klein

It's Not Your Mom's Book Club, whiskey edition. The Woman Beings discuss and review Pure by Linda Kay Klein. The book is a collection of interviews that will take you inside the evangelical movement known as "purity culture," which is characterized by a strict set of rules about dating, sex, and modesty. The Woman Beings review the book and discuss their own experiences growing up in purity culture and the ways in which it has affected their lives, faith, marriages, dating experiences, and views of self. In other words, this is a whiskey-worthy type of book, so get out your bourbon and join the club!
