Episode 7 | Not Your Mom's Book Club: Educated

Episode 7 | Not Your Mom's Book Club: Educated

Welcome to the very first Not Your Mom's Book Club review! Today the Woman Beings discuss the book, "Educated" by Tara Westover. "Educated" is Westover's memoir about growing up in rural Idaho under the care of extremist, hyper-religious parents. They denied their daughter a proper education out of fear that she would be influenced by corrupt governmental systems. Against all odds, Tara was accepted into BYU at the age of 17, and then went on to complete her doctorate at Cambridge University. "Educated" is a story of grit, a harrowing journey of womanhood, and a beautiful articulation of the value of an education. Give it a read, grab your favorite drink, and join the club!

SPOILERS DISCLAIMER: This episode contains spoilers. Go read the book!

So refreshing and so real

I have listened to every episode every week, and was so excited for the start of this podcast!!! (Check out their cute instagram page it’s amazing @womanbeingpodcast) As a woman in her 20’s it is really fun and insightful to just listen to other women's experiences and thoughts on different topics. I love how real the girls are, and although I don’t agree with every opinion, I love that that is the whole point. I don’t have to agree, but its refreshing to hear other peoples opinions and “have the freedom to change my mind”. Literally love that quote. ANYWAYS! Give it a listen.

Love!

Loved Episode 2! As someone who grew up with Kelly Anne and was in the same environments for many things, I related so much to this episode about modesty culture. I’ve been going through my own journey of exploration and unlearning these past few years, and I anticipate this podcast being a great resource. I look forward to all the episodes to come!
