#115: The power of self-care in grief

Grief and loss will be part of all of our lives at some point. Having resilience and also self-compassion to support yourself when you lose a loved one is so important. But so is it important to help you stay healthy and well in every way. I’m exploring this sensitive and very important topic with an incredible guest today - Lisa K. Boehm. Lisa is discussing the importance of resilience and sharing her personal journey after the tragic loss of her daughter, Katie, and how it transformed her understanding of grief. We talk about the various forms of loss, the significance of self-care, and the necessity of community support. Lisa emphasises that resilience is a choice and can be cultivated through small, meaningful steps. Our conversation highlights the need for women to connect and support each other, especially during challenging times. Having a supportive network and community can be a challenge when our lives are fast-paced and midlife has perhaps thrown many curveballs at you. Lisa shares advice on how you can find and connect with a new community, even in midlife. In this episode we share: That resilience is crucial for navigating any of life's challenges. The rising challenges women are facing to their health and the role of resilience to navigate this with strength and ease. Why community support is essential for building resilience. That grief can manifest in many forms beyond losing a loved one. It's important to allow yourself to feel and process grief. How self-care is foundational for mental health and healing. The way joy and grief can coexist; one does not negate the other. The importance of rediscovering yourself after loss and appreciating that this is a journey. About Lisa: Lisa K. Boehm’s life changed forever when her 17 year old daughter died suddenly in a car accident. She quickly discovered that our society struggles with death, loss, and grieving and has made it her mission to change that. In her book 'Journey to HEALING: A Mother’s Guide to Navigating Child Loss’ she shares her experience with grief and her way back to a meaningful life.  Now she focuses on gratitude and living intentionally as a way of honouring her daughter’s memory. Lisa is an author, speaker, and certified grief educator who shares the power of hope and human connection in her presentations, workshops, and book. #109: Building habits of soul care and intentional self-care

Do you prioritise self-care? Or perhaps you think of self-care as something to treat yourself to now and again - like having a bubble bath? Today I’m joined by Sara McCready to discuss the importance of soul care versus self-care and the impact of energy on overall health and wellbeing. Sara learned through her own journey healing from toxic relationships the importance of prioritising self-care and approaching it from a place of caring for your soul - something that is such a beautiful approach to have. We chat about the importance of nervous system regulation and the power of spending any time at all in nature, along with using tools like mindfulness and breathwork to help regulate the nervous system and find balance. Sara shares why our energy is so important to every aspect of our wellbeing and happiness. We explore what our chakras are and how clearing them supports healing from different types of trauma and anxiety.  In our conversation we talk about: Building habits of soul care and intentional self-care for regulating the nervous system and supporting our energetic body. Why it’s important to give ourselves permission and time to prioritise our own wellbeing. The power of being outdoors to promote strong health and lift your energy. How having awareness of the mind-body connection shifts how you support your health and wellbeing. The concept of chakras and their connection to your physical and energetic bodies.
