    The history of masks is rich and reaches back thousands of years. Masks have always held a dual purpose: the freedom to transform and embody new aspects of self and the potential to conceal. They remind us of the different roles we play in life, allowing us to both explore and question who we are beneath them. Many styles of masks have been utilized through a plethora of cultures as a bridge of transformative energy. What has intrigued me about the archetype of mask is how I can embody more deeply my connection to self, other, and the collective by utilizing them. In this episode, we dive into the dichotomy of physical and metaphorical mask wearing and some of the common masks we wear to empower ourselves and also the common masks that may be hidden (even to ourselves) that hold parts of our being’s expression hostage. As we move through different types of masks and I share some of my own experiences with masks, can you track masks that may possibly dominate your persona, others that may lie hidden, and ones that empower?     Welcome back. I would like to take a moment to Thank You. Thank you to the many souls that helped inspire me to, what felt like finally, create this portal of connection and conversation with you through this podcast. The dreams, sorrows, triumphs, frustrations, desires and more that you have shared over the years is what sits in the heart of each conversation You, Me, and the Elephant has. Speaking of what sits in the heart of conversation, this episode is centered around how we get to enough curiosity, humility, and trust to discover more about ourselves, others, and the life we live. As you have witnessed each episode invites you in through a QUESTION. This episode explores why that is so, and what a question can offer us. Specifically, when we bring more presence, openness and consciousness into them. Said differently, a question transports us into the space between knowing and not knowing, and into the belly of what can easily be overlooked.     #37 - Do you belong?

    What did you think about most today, which thought patterns seem to have a hold on your attention, and do they give you access to more energy, peace and perspective? Many questions it seems, to play with in our conversation of Do You Belong? 😉 If you worry and/or tend to have many of the same thoughts racing rent free through your mind each day, You are Not Alone. Which brings me to today’s discussion. Some studies suggest, we have approximately 60,000 thoughts per day. Point being, we have a whole lotta them! I want to acknowledge that there are many happenings within our world that can feel worrisome and stress inducing. The challenge is that when we are stressed (which as a population is a lot), we feel more isolated and more separate from one another. With this, our perspective shrinks and we tend to perseverate over our differences and what we are against in others vs. what we have in common and what connects us. This is not a bypass to suggest that we must all agree with one another. In fact, that IS the brilliance of our diversity; the ability to contribute different viewpoints that can broaden and perhaps expand our scope of awareness. When we are stuck in one lens of focus it can become hard to LISTEN to others when they share a different perspective. All this to say, the other day I became inspired as I broadened my lens, as REALLY broadened it…to remembering that we are part of one planet in a universe of approximately 21.6 sextillion. (Ok, in truth I geeked out a whole bunch lol) BUT, if you are brave enough to hang out with me for 30 minutes, perhaps you too will find that opening up your viewpoint may help you feel more ease, connection, and kindness for yourself and others. One of my favorite quotes from Desmond Tutu is: “My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.” I Belong, because You Belong….We Belong in concert with ALL. ♥️ Dr. Deb

    #36 - What are you trying to prove?

    What are you trying to prove? The other day my inner thoughts were about 10 steps ahead of my body. Have you ever felt this way? I could feel a sense of urgency that didn’t seem to match what I was actually doing in that moment. Once I realized this, I blurted out: “Deb, what are you trying to prove!?” and then laughed at the absurdity of it all. It prompted me to ponder, what exactly was I trying to prove or accomplish? And, why did it require so much thinking!? Or, did it? This reflection ended up turning into an episode as I realized how many folks I work with have their own version of this experience of needing to “prove”. I welcome you into this conversation and invite you to consider some of the things that may promote this kind of internal pressure to prove, be good, and/or do better. And, consider ways to find more ease and acceptance of self. Even if you don’t think you have anything to prove, perhaps listen just the same as maybe it’ll offer some insight “for a friend.” 😉 With love and reverence, Dr Deb

    #35- Do you ever get lonely?

    Do You Ever Get Lonely? The theme of loneliness has been in the queue for quite awhile. Everytime I looked at it, I conveniently said: “Nah, not this time.” The other day I woke up with a powerful experience of feeling lonely…the “can’t shake it kind”. Have you ever felt that?  So THIS time when I looked at my potential episode themes, loneliness was a little harder to ignore. 😉 It seems that loneliness, for all of us, may be hiding in some of the less acknowledged parts of our BEings, thoughts, and feelings. It can surface when we least expect it, as in my case the other day. It is my belief that the ability to feel lonely is a natural part of our human landscape of experience. Simply put, no one escapes it no matter how much you side eye or re-route around it. If this belief is even in part true, then it is a subject that holds much importance as it is Universal. In fact, it is our lack of speaking about it that creates such disruption between each other and within ourselves. We keep it silent and/or feel as if it is our own burden and no one else would understand. What do YOU do when you feel lonely? In this episode, we unpack loneliness…what it is, what is inside of it, and how we can navigate and support more connected lives for ourselves and our loved ones because of it. When we understand loneliness from a broader perspective, we can begin to excavate some of the beauty that can emerge from its wake.     #34 - What do you see?

    Do you sometimes have a hard time receiving…compliments, love, or help? If your answer is even a tiny bit, “yes”, you are certainly not alone. The irony is that as a culture, we All Receive so much more information at rapid paces than that of our ancestors. So much so, that it is quite easy to experience overwhelm and have your cup runneth over. And, your overwhelm has a direct influence on how well You RECEIVE. It’s important to note that SEEing is a type of RECEIVing. In this episode I explore with you what it means to SEE. Sounds simple enough right? Many times the most obvious and important realities are the hardest to see, like a fish looking for the water. (Analogy concept comes from David Foster Wallace’s “This is Water.”)We will take a moment to discern what allows you to see…or NOT see. You will discover that what you take in (see) everyday impacts how well you can receive. In addition, we will also look at how our world is set up to make us addicted to multitasking, burnout, and addictive habits in general. The great thing is, when we sit with the elephant together and really listen, it not only reveals important information for us, but it turns on our natural wisdom and inspires micro doses of inspiration and growth.     Last month we celebrated Mother’s Day. This is a day that can elicit a range of feelings depending on our personal life experiences. This got me thinking about Mother. What is a mother, what is her role, and how can we explore these questions through the lens of archetype vs a person? One (of many) attractions to explore the subject of mother is simply the undeniable fact that we ALL encountered our first heartbeat in the womb of the mother. This alone not only links us all to mother, but to each other. THAT is worth talking about don’t you think? As you listen to this episode, remember we are exploring what Mother means through different archetypes. Archetypes are not people, An archetype is a collection of habits, feelings, styles of being that we witness through our history of humanity. They can offer us wisdom, guidance, awareness about ourselves and our relationships.     #32 - How do you Sustain Your Life?

    We hear a fair amount about the importance of sustainability when it comes to the planet, or at least we are so, more and more. In tandem with this thought, we all know that maintaining our vehicle, like oil checks and tire upkeep are important to help prevent or slow down the wear and tear of usage. But, how does sustainability and maintenance fit into our personal life journey? A question I was presented with recently was: “Where in my life do I Sustain and where in my life do I Maintain?” This got me wondering. Firstly, what’s the difference between the two? Secondly I was curious, once I could distinguish how sustaining something may differ from maintaining something, how would I answer the original question for myself and what sort of elephants may this inquiry reveal? Have you ever been asked a simple question that feels out of proportionally complex to answer? Wait, or is that just me!?? 😆 This conversation ended up being very helpful in noticing where I am currently “maintenance heavy & where I am maintenance light” I discovered that how I am maintaining and sustaining aspects of my life show me places inside myself that are scared, unsure, and are calling for more love, connection, and expansion. This awareness illuminates my trust in the callings and inspirations I receive that have yet to take 3D form. I also realized that maintenance and sustenance are not the same, but they do play an integral role with each other. I sense I may not be the only one to find new self awareness & deeper connection on this expedition of “What does it mean to Sustain Your Life?” Will you join me? ❤️ Dr. Deb
