Zombie cells, or senescent cells, are aging cells that have lost their ability to divide but don’t die off as they should. These cells can accumulate in the skin due to various stressors, like UV radiation and pollution, leading to a decline in skin elasticity, increased wrinkles, and a dull complexion. They can also secrete inflammatory factors that disrupt the skin’s overall health, contributing to aging and conditions like psoriasis or eczema. Tune in to this episode of ASCP Esty Talk to hear Maggie and Ella discuss how understanding zombie cells should be important to all skin care professionals.
