“Steve!” I shouted instinctively as my sleek, lightweight mobile cellular telephone buzzed. It wasn’t a call though, rather a notification that the latest episode of my favourite soccer podcast was available. Since returning from the managerial wilderness a few months ago to try and save Oldcastle United from relegation, I had been devouring anything to do with the sport which I had purposefully shunned for over a decade. The Jag purred as I accelerated through the curving mountain roads of the Pennines. I was on a mission. With just a few days left until our crunch encounter with fellow relegation candidates Morwich on Saturday/Monday, our lanky Icelandic shot stopper had vanished off the face of the earth - all I had to go on was a string of cryptic tweets and a bloody goalie glove with one finger cut off which was left on my desk alongside a full cup of tepid camomile tea. No one touches my tea. Apart from Julie that is, she knows just how I like it. The sun began to rise over the misty mountain top as the Jaguar, with its 200 break horsepower engine made mincemeat of the elevations. “I’m coming for you, just hold on,” I thought to myself as I pressed play on my new iPhone 11. The intro to the podcast came crystal clear through the motor vehicle’s 8 strategically positioned dual stereo speakers.
