"Right now, trans people face the unprecedented combination of political, social and physical violence--to the extent that when stories are told about our community, it is often through the lens of this violence,” says Imara Jones, host and creator of TransLash Podcast, Apple Podcasts’ Spotlight show for August 2022. “But the truth is that our lives are defined by so much more beyond hate. In almost every area of society, trans people are innovating, creating new futures and thriving--and this is the story I want to tell.”Jones first made an impact in a 2018 online docuseries about her transition and life and four years later, the podcast is just one part of TransLash Media, a fast-growing platform and nonprofit organization telling stories and reflecting the culture through a trans perspective. With new episodes twice a month, Jones delivers illuminating discussions with guests from the trans community as well as allies to help create a fairer world for all. Each episode also starts with a segment that highlights a moment of joy to add a bit of levity to some of the heavier topics she covers. “We showcase the fundamental hope and joy which propels our community forward,” she says. “If you care about and want to understand trans people at this moment, we have evolved into essential listening both for our community and those outside of it.” With anti-trans violence and political backlash at all-time highs, award-winning journalist Imara Jones hosts the TransLash podcast, where trans people and allies talk back about what matters most and discuss how to create a fairer world for all. As the countdown to Election Day continues, the stress and uncertainty of U.S. politics can impact our wellbeing in some major ways. So how do we manage our own mental health and support others until November 5 and beyond? Imara asks two mental health professionals about their favorite strategies and frameworks for building emotional resilience and networks of care. First, she’s joined by clinician and researcher Dr. Sebastian Mitchell Barr, who shares how he applies a feminist model of post traumatic stress to trans survival in an era of heightened political attacks. Next she talks with clinician Beck Gee about turning to community care, how to better check in with your friends, and the struggle to find trans-inclusive mental health services.  Request free copies from the Resilience Postcard Project here: https://transresiliencestudy.com/resilience-postcard-project/ And make sure to check out TransLash Media’s political show “The Mess: Imara’s Guide to Our Political Hellscape.” You can subscribe by getting a TransLash Fam membership in Apple Podcasts. This week, Imara talks with two people who are fighting back in two states with some of the harshest anti-trans laws. First, she’s joined by Executive Director of the Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT), Emmett Schelling, who discusses the importance of solidarity with other social justice movements, the challenges of organizing in Texas, and what keeps him motivated to continue the fight. Replay: Trans Family Child Separation

Over the past couple of years, Republicans in Texas and Florida have pursued a devastating new line of attack against trans youth: separating them from their supportive parents. In this episode replay from last spring, Imara discusses the politics and consequences of these family separation efforts with two people working on the frontlines. First, she’s joined by former Texas Child Protective Services employee Morgan Hardee Davis, who shares his harrowing experience of being forced to investigate loving, trans-affirming families, and his decision to resign in protest. Next, Imara talks with the Director of the Transgender Rights Initiative at Southern Legal Counsel, Simone Chriss, about the state of Florida’s attempt to manipulate custody rules to provide a safe haven for transphobic parents.  And make sure to check out TransLash Media’s news and politics show “The Mess: Imara’s Guide to Our Political Hellscape.” You can subscribe by getting a TransLash Fam membership in Apple Podcasts.
