It has been said that "Ryan Fritz can handle a pen as well as a rope". A true product of the West, Ryan Fritz was born in BC, raised in Alberta, Ranched in Saskatchewan.   He is a Singer, Songwriter, Musician, and Recording Artist in addition has worked on some of Canada's largest ranches, including the Gang Ranch and Douglas Lake. With his family ranching and music is a part of everyday life. Ryan's songwriting started back when he left home to cowboy on Canada's Gang Ranch in the Cariboo region of British Columbia.  After honing his trade and many ranches later,  he settled in Saskatchewan to raise his family in his own outfit.  Ryan's music is inspired by the western and ranching lives of the past and the present. His own experiences of cowboying, stories of other people & his environment make for "lots of good writing material", says Fritz.  Ryan has released five albums to date including  ' Keeper of the West ', released in early 2016. Ryan's New Album "Cow Pony" will be available on April 23, 2021. Jon Griggs Ranch Manager for Maggie Creek Ranch LP

Jon Griggs Ranch Manager for Maggie Creek Ranch LP

Jon Griggs is the Ranch Manager for Maggie Creek Ranch LP in Elko, NV. No one’s quite sure of the exact date, but sometime in the late 1800s, two men raised as brothers—George Hunter and George Banks—founded what today is called the Maggie Creek Ranch. The ranch has exchanged hands a few times since then but has been owned and still active ownership of the Searle Family since 1975. Maggie Creek Ranch is in the business of producing high-quality beef while conserving and improving public and private lands.  Their goal is to be the best possible stewards of their resources while feeding the world through production agriculture. The operation consists of approximately 198,000 acres of owned (deeded) and leased BLM (grazing permitted grazing land.)

Jon’s got 30+ years of ranching experience and running some of the largest outfits in Nevada, and at one point worked for the biggest landowner and rancher in America, which he will get into on the show. He currently serves as President-Elect for the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association and is on the board of trustees for the Western Folklife Center. Jon worked his way up from Cowboy, to Cow boss, to Ranch Manager at Maggie Creek, and has learned many things along the way, including how to manage people. It was a real pleasure speaking with Jon and one of his many quotable moments that stood out to me during the show was when he said, “I talk about the people I work with, I don’t talk about the people that work for me. I try to learn as much about them, and with that get the best of them, and figure out the skills that they have fit, with what we need.” Jon is as genuine and authentic as a person that you are going to meet.

    Enjoy!

Episode 3 Curtis and Ross Ohlendorf of Rocking O Longhorns

Episode 3 Curtis and Ross Ohlendorf of Rocking O Longhorns

Rocking O Longhorns' Curtis and Ross Ohlendorf were recently named the 2020 Texas Longhorn Breeders Of The Year by the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America. The Dave Evans Top Breeder award is one of the top honors of the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America.

Mr. Curtis Ohlendorf and his son Ross, are two of the most humble and genuine Texans you will ever meet. They are one of the top breeders in the country, and after you listen to their history and experience you will understand why.

Curtis Ohlendorf is a fifth-generation Texas farmer/rancher and is the one most responsible for making Rocking O Longhorns what it is today. His love of animals and agriculture, along with a chance sighting of a colorful newborn longhorn at a cousin's ranch, was the inspiration of our herd. With help from his sons, he slowly grew the herd by leasing more and more land. Fence and pasture improvements were commonplace, and many a hot Texas day was spent carrying fenceposts and wire through rugged terrain. Since retiring from the University of Texas in 2008, he has managed to fill his time with the various activities involved in managing a cowherd that numbers about 200 breeding-age females spread out on 2500 acres.

Ross Ohlendorf inherited his father's love of ranching, but his job as a Major League baseball pitcher used to keep him away from the ranch for about eight months of the year. He would help out at the ranch when at home and would stay as involved as he could during the season. He managed the website and handled most of the marketing. He also took advantage of his travels by stopping by a number of herds around the country. After playing for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, and Washington Nationals, he was thrilled to be able to stay close to home for the 2015 season, signing with the Texas Rangers. That season was highlighted with a save in game 2 of the playoffs against the Toronto Blue Jays. For 2016, he ventured out of state again to be a relief pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds, and for 2017 he decided to go International, starting pitching for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. His love of longhorns has been well documented over the years, with feature stories in Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, Modern Farmer, Texas Monthly, the Texas Longhorn Journal, and a Tokyo newspaper. While playing baseball, Ross dreamed of one day returning to the ranch full time. That dream became a reality in the spring of 2018, and he has been working alongside his father daily since then.
