Stephen Fry's 7 Deady Sins - I will take each one of the Seven Sins in turn, lay them out on the surgical table and poke, prod, pry and provoke in an attempt to try to anatomise and understand them; I hope and believe it will be, if nothing else, delicious fun and something of a change from the usual run of podcastery.

    S2 EP3 - Greed

    S2 EP3 - Greed

Avarice, or Greed as we would call it today, now there’s a proper vice, one we can all surely identify with, claim and confess to. One of the defining quotations of the materialistic 1980s came from the fictional character Gordon Gecko, the junk bond pirate played by Michael Douglas in the Oliver Stone film, Wall Street. “Greed,” he tells a dinner of fellow financiers, “for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works”. It’s easy to dismiss this. Your instinct might be to shake your head sadly, or scoff angrily. Yet...

Podcast perfection

Max Reckmann ,

delightful and highly relevant!

This podcast is wonderful! In fact calling it a podcast might be underselling it - literally - it is as carefully written as a book that i would absolutely pay money for. Though having Stephen narrate these grand stories in his voice, needless to say, is priceless.

It’s a sort of commentated chronology of the very much ongoing history of the many strategies humans have evolved to transmit Information - arguably the very capability that sets us apart from the other inhabitants of our world.

It reminds me of the book Sapiens in its objective and like Harari’s general overview of human history i think this podcast is very well suited (though certainly not exclusively) for curious young adults looking for a bit of an introductory stepping stone - a vantage point, as it were, to reflect on the nature of our existence.

Enjoy, i certainly did!
