Media is a double edged sword for us since we like that these procedures are becoming more accepted and well known by the consumer, yet we also see people treating "tox" parties or "pop-ups" in non-medical settings with as much care as getting a temporary tattoo! Think about it - how often do you see Dentists doing teeth cleaning parties? Respiratory Therapists doing group nebulizers - buy 5 get 1 free? Sounds Ridiculous, Right?!?!  Yet you will find 'people' working in the medical spa  - serving you alcohol and making more money off on pyramid-scheme-like buy-ins and more incentives based on the number of friends you can swindle into this scheme!



Amie, Cheylene, Kristina and Danielle use their years of experience to provide tips on how to choose a provider that is looking out for you rather than how many views they have or how much money they are making. This episode was entertaining to listen to, as we could see and share the two perspectives from the provider and consumer viewpoints. We talk about the perceived convenience of ordering skincare from Amazon or purchasing from your local Walgreens or Sephora and how patients need to realize that these products are not giving them the results they want, or they would not be sitting in our clinic. Amie shares hesitations about her boldness while navigating educating patients, sometimes until she is blue in the face.



The reality is that ANEU Med Spa is here to educate, first and foremost. Within an unregulated industry, the #dreamteam is primarily concerned with ensuring patient safety, establishing high standards of care, and providing realistic and beautiful results from real people (not edited or filtered photos).

As we begin 2023, we felt that we were ready to discuss the topic of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. This is a highly sensitive topic that has grown in awareness over the last few years with the increased use of filters, social media, AI and other face altering tools. Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a mental health condition in which you fixate on a perceived flaw in your appearance.

During this month’s episode, we speak with Clinic Director & Founder, Amie Neumaier (AGPCNP-BC) along with Aesthetic Nurse Injector, Riley Knutson (BSN RN), to discuss the topic of Body Dysmorphic Disorder from a clinical perspective. Having been injecting for over 10 years, Amie brings us the perspective of how this has evolved over the past several years, while Riley being in her 20's and immersed in this culture of filters herself, brings us her perspective and realizations she has noticed with her patients as of late.
This was an eye-opening episode with a lot of moving parts. We focused first on what BDD is, how it is defined clinically and how we, at ANEU Med Spa, have taken steps to screen our patients for BDD.  Patients with BDD can very easily be taken advantage of in this industry so we try to have those tough conversations to ensure we are doing what is ethically right for our patients.  At the same time, we want to avoid the pitfalls of completely unrealistic expectations these patients can have which could only be achieved through digital editing. We move into positive self-talk, how the internet has impacted us individually and how we see our industry impacting the future generations. As BDD and other mental health diagnoses continue to surface, we want to educate our patients on what BDD is and why it is important to be aware of it.

Both Samantha and Shawn shared how they have these challenging conversations with patients, while noting that it often comes down to education and being able to acknowledge how different patient anatomy is to what we are seeing on a screen. As medical aesthetics continues to grow and expand, these conversations will continue to come with it.
