Dale Dorning – our Hair and Beauty Guru

In episode #62, Mel and Trish invite educator and celebrity hair and makeup artist Dale Dorning into the studio to talk about his fascinating career as well as hitting him up for hair and makeup tips for their 50ish tribe.
Dale has worked in the industry since leaving school and beginning an apprenticeship at 15 and has never looked back. His tenacity and strong work ethic lead to a life many of us can only dream of – travelling the world and working with huge-name celebrities such as Joanna Lumley, Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale, Teresa Palmer, Jennifer Hawkins, Oscar winner Jared Leto, singers James Blunt and Jessica Mauboy, Delta Goodrem and to top it off, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. His work has been showcased in fashion editorials, advertising campaigns, music videos, runway shows, entertainment industry red carpet events and television.
He's an immensely talented 50isher who believes much of his success is due to a strongly held philosophy of never approaching his work with a negative perspective. It’s clearly paid dividends & the girls were thrilled to spend this time with him.
Enjoy the creative intellect of Dale Dorning.

Zhuzh it up with Interior Stylist & Designer Sally Walvin

Zhuzh it up with Interior Stylist & Designer Sally Walvin

In episode #61, Mel and Trish invite interior stylist and designer Sally Walvin into the studio to chat about how to zhuzh up our homes or rooms within our homes to better reflect where we’re at as 50ishers. Sally has over ten years’ experience working in both residential and commercial interiors & possesses a skilled eye and refined attention to detail required to help brighten up some of those tired old spaces.
The challenge of course is deciding where to begin? Sally suggests functionality is key & we definitely don’t have to commit to ‘forever’ pieces in order to freshen up. She talks the girls through the effects of layering and the pieces that add the most value to a space. It’s not all about big budgets either. It can be as simple as a regular room edit – moving furniture, a declutter and adding some greenery.
This is a fun chat with lots of great practical advice. Enjoy the creative prowess of the divine Sally Walvin.

The Dos and Don’ts of Separation with lawyer Pippa Colman

The Dos and Don’ts of Separation with lawyer Pippa Colman

In episode #60, Mel and Trish chat with lawyer Pippa Colman about the dos and don’ts of separation as sadly, this is a situation confronting a considerable number of midlife women. Pippa launched her practice in 2001 and in addition to being a lawyer, is a qualified mediator and arbitrator, one who is regularly engaged by other lawyers to act in this capacity. In other words, she is a brilliantly qualified, super capable midlife woman with a wealth of practical experience and advice to share.
Pippa believes the best way to approach this situation is with kindness and respect and in her very calm and professional manner, talks the girls through the necessary steps to take when facing this situation and equally those to absolutely avoid. She explains that since the price of separation is high (both literally and metaphorically), it’s imperative to get good advice and follow it as closely as possible so the best outcomes can be achieved for all parties.
There is a lot of practical, no-nonsense advice offered by Pippa based on many years of experience. Even if this situation does not relate directly to you, no doubt, it relates to someone you know. A not-to-be-missed episode.
Enjoy the intelligence and integrity of Pippa Colman.

‘This is Not a Love Song,’ – talking mental health, love, grief and loss with the awesome Amber Petty

In episode #59 Mel and Trish were thrilled to chat with media personality, radio broadcaster and fellow 50isher Amber Petty about her memoir This is Not a Love Song and the many life stories that informed her incredible book.
Amber has an impressive bio which includes not just her work in media and radio but also roles as an author/writer, columnist, podcaster, senior PR positions with OMD and CHE Proximity and more recently, director of storytelling at Tracador in Melbourne. She also, just happens to be the best friend and bridesmaid of Princess Mary of Denmark. But it’s the stranger-than-fiction story of what was happening behind the scenes that lies at the heart of her memoir and her chat to the girls. It’s a story of love, mental health issues, and managing success while simultaneously coping with grief and loss.
Amber has a warm heart, a big laugh, and an even bigger life experience to share.
Enjoy the seriously awesome and very cool Amber Petty.
